When I was 10 years old I could watch hours and hours of MTV, videos after videos and VJ's telling you about each song and introducing the next one all bad-ass. It was GREAT. Even if I did not like the song it was just so weird to see these crazy make-em-up videos that I would not mind. It was JUST LIKE THIS
check it out! http://www.jonhs.net/freemovies/mtv_1983.htm hour and a half of MTV from 1983. recorded straight! Fuck I am so glad I was alive and had hours to waste as a ten year old. "Old VHS recording of MTV from 1983 (Mark Goodman as VJ) including commercials. Some of the music videos include: Night Ranger - Don't Tell Me You Love Me, Huey Lewis & The News - Heart & Soul, The Tubes - Monkey Time, Prince - Little Red Corvette, George Thorogood & The Destroyers - Bad To The Bone, The Police - Synchronicity II, Sammy Hagar - Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy, Steve Miller Band - Jet Airliner, Kansas - Fight Fire With Fire, Michael Bolton - Fool's Game, Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noize, Bow Wow Wow - Do You Wanna Hold Me?, The Who - You Better You Bet , The Motels - Suddenly Last Summer, Madness - Our House, Nick Heyward - Whistle Down The Wind" and many many more

MTV was fun as hell early on. As Rob said, you didn't even have to really dig the song or artist to enjoy the format and all the activity at that time.
It was predicted in '79. These guys were the FIRST music vid to be shown on MTV. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_K...The_Radio_Star

it used to be good. mtv latino was decent in the early 90's they had VJs in argentina, venezuela, mexico and... somewhere else, and they introduced a lot of bands... was like the old mtv format. sure not all music was brilliant but at least they made an effort to promote music. i remember hearing mano negra/manu chao there first. later, they were taken over by the forces of evil and imbecility. |

I remember the day MTV went on the air. Us neighborhood kids were outside playing (riding bicycles or something) and one kid comes tearing up to us. "C'mon, you gotta see this," he says. "What?" "You'll see," teased our friend, Lance.
So we go to his family's house and there on the floor-mount console television is the close of Billy Idol's "White Wedding." I remember thinking, "oh, it's just some TV show," but then quickly realized the glorious novelty of this new channel; namely, that I wouldn't necessarily have to stay up all night on weekends anymore watching "Night Tracks" on WTBS, the SuperStation out of Atlanta. And although I didn't see The Buggles do "Video Killed the Radio Star" the first time they played it, I saw it at the top of that next hour. |

The first video i've ever seen on mtv was Bowie's 'DJ'. I don't like that song now, but the video was a video, and i was raised by paedos.
