i got it a couple days ago, i really like it but it has that "soundtrack feeling" (you know, right?) that makes me consider it as a parallel thing rather than a proper "album".
Veryrelaxing tracks. Pleasant mood. The cover makes me laugh, as you can see mogwai is written with little little fonts, and ZIDANE is big, so maybe some people will buy it thinking it's zizou's debut in music biz. he he.

Erm... It's about Zidane. Zinedine Zidane.
"Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait is a 90-minute study of Zidane playing for Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, before 80,000 supporters, against Villareal in Spain's Primera Liga on April 23, 2005. Seventeen different cameras focus purely on Zidane and not the wider match, capture his every move, pass, tackle and breath during the game. After a relatively quiet first half, he plays a key part in the 2-1 win. But he finishes the game being shown the red card after charging into a mass brawl, the provocation for which remains out of shot." |

it's a "documentary" about zidane, i did not watch this yet, but apparently it's just him catch on film during an actual game by like 20 diffrent cameras, details, slo-mo, etc. jsut him and mogwai music for 90 minutes.or so. sounds like a trippy/dreamy kind of thing...
edit: whoops, i was a bit late ... sonicl was waaay more comprehensive in his answer...

That's because I stole mine from a newspaper's website!
EDIT - The film is released on DVD on 29 January 2007, by the way. |

"even thieves couldn't lie" , quoting The Black Heart Procession... yep, i "suspected" you took that from an official press kit or something...but it was just what was needed, so you did the right thing.

A review (stolen again!) from The Times
MOGWAI Zidane: A 21st-century Portrait PIAS X067CD Faced with the instrumental post-rock of bands such as Mogwai, reviewers have often fallen back on the old “sounds like the soundtrack to a movie that hasn’t been made” line. Not this time, though, because Zidane is the soundtrack to a movie that has been made — the documentary by Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno that focused unremittingly on French football genius Zinedine Zidane throughout the entire 92 minutes of a Real Madrid match against Villarreal. Mogwai hold off on the aural fireworks, instead conjuring an air of brooding tension that — presciently enough — hints at exactly the kind of hidden darkness that erupted in the World Cup final. Tracks such as 7.25 and Half Time are mouthwateringly beautiful. Can’t wait for the sequel: Music to Butt Italians By. |

I listened to it again today while cleaning the mess in my room. Now i'll say something that might sound stupid, but it really was a nice soundtrack... usually i get nervous/tired after a few minutes when i do things like that, this time the music helped my mood, i was relaxed and with a strange smile on my face. Now I like it more than before my housekeeping duties.

I finally got round to getting this at the weekend. I was listening to it (track 2, I think) yesterday evening, and my girlfriend came in and asked "Are you listening to Lionel Richie?".
Oh dear... |

There's a piano section in the track, that was what was playing.
Unless maybe the CD in the box wasn't Zidane? |

Uh, I did not understand wether or not that was a sorta critic to the album or just a "hoe life anedocte" (?)
By the way, in many cd shops here in Italy the album is filed under the letter "Z", yeah, like it was a Zizou solo album. HA!
