They're pretty big. I think one of the original members died if I remember right. Basically it's using their bodies to do surreal/abstract art, and it is very cool. I saw them like ten or fifteen years ago or so, and would gladly go again if I could afford it.

I just don't know alot about dance (being that I do experimental and drama theatre mostly) and I heard they performed at the Academy awards etc and have done heaps of big budget car commercials and the like. What sort of venues do they play in the US, big , small , medium?

Medium, which is huge for a dance group. Dance groups don't play arenas, but the biggest ones play large "performing arts" venues. They're about as big as Tap Dogs from Australia to compare popularity, though they are much better (not cheesy like that), and of legendary critical acclaim.
