It's not fucking irony either...watching the Kissology thing on VH1 evoked my memories of being a kid looking at my bro's kiss records and gazing in awe at the Alive II gatefold concert shot. They were the first band to stir up some sort of fasctination with rock and roll in my stupid little brain.

If I wasn't such a generation y'r I could totally see myself as a KISS fan. But, alas, I wasn't apart of the times and see them as bizarre and cheesy. Eh, what can I do.

I recently got a KISS bootleg and actually enjoyed listening to it. A few amateur shot videos and audience recordings had been at dime before, but I opted to get the '76 Cleveland show because it's a soundboard. Well, as it turns out it's a multi-track soundboard that's never been mixed properly, but it was still surprisingly not bad.
My ten favorite KISS songs: Black Diamond Detroit Rock City Rock 'n' Roll All Nite Strutter Charisma God of Thunder 2,000 Man Psycho Circus I Was Made for Lovin' You Shout It Out Loud Entourage used Ace Frehley's solo white boy funk anthem "New York Groove" as the outro song to last week's episode. After listening to a bunch of Mick Taylor-era hi-quality Stones recordings of late, I've gone back to Led Zeppelin because of a recent abundance of "new" soundboards being put up at dime.

great expectations is the most underrated song of all time,
pure genius, destroyer is a great album, but theyve spewed out plenty of cheesey crap |

I can perhaps see why they were a deal in the 70's, they are kinda fun and iconic in a weird way. KISS have never really done anything for me but I dont have them as much as Aerosmith (Who I can't stand)

kiss was their best on lick it up and those albums, when they were trying to be poison.
that, revenge and ace frehley's solo album are their best. other than that, i've heard enough of kiss for many lifetimes. |

I saw them on their first reunion tour in '96 and it was one of the best concerts i've ever been to. musically they're average, but you can't touch their live show. i was a little disappointed that they used a fake peter and ace a couple years ago - i would have rather they went back to just making music. animalize and asylum were both great post-makeup albums, and all hell's breakin' loose is one of my all-time favorite songs off lick it up.

i saw them in the first reunion tour too, mainly because pantera came to open for them and pantera blew them off the stage.
yeah, some parts were fun (the whole ending to "firehouse", ace's solo..."god of thunder" was moronic though, a shame because it's one of their best songs, same with "rock n' roll all nite" guitar smashing ending, mainly because the guitar was obviously prepared to break really easily, that was very dumb) but yeah it was entertaining, and pantera upstaged them. |

I saw them too because I got a free ticket from a blood drive. It was pretty ridiculous but I'm glad I went.

YEAH seeing that fold out inner picture in KISS Alive II did the same for me eons ago! I was 11 when that album came out I think. The fire, the staircases, makeup; it all just looked so insanely over the top, how could I NOT want to be a part of it? Dressed To Kill was my introduction to KISS when it came out so it'll always be my favorite album. |

KISS reminds me of Detroit Rock City, the movie. Therefore I could never hate them.
