just watched "Jandek on Corwood"
not about to pretend i'm a scenester, but i must say: this sound intrigues every bit of me.... it tickles parts of my nostalgic dead soul..... regardless, I'm curious, does he still respond tothis address?? Is it still possible to order the "back-catalogue" ,, ? or is it all a mystery? |

Not really a mystery anymore. He's played a bunch of gigs in various places now. His name is Stirling something. Stirling Smith maybe...allegedly.
I'm not that fond of the Jandek stuff I've heard....I have Glasgow Sunday and I've probably only listened to it 5-10 times. |

I fucking hated his show in Newcastle. So much so that I became obsessed and listened to it loads, trying to figure out why I hated it. Over time I came to like it. But the live shows I've heard still grate... his voice is less contrived on record, and that makes for good Jandek.
*Edit: He/ they/ it does still respond to the mailing adress.

i like the hanful of mp3s i've heard, but he was pretty dull live, his guitar playing was particularly monotonous.

The problem is is that's part of the thing with Jandek, part of the aesthetic. He's playing near me soon, I'm tempted to go, but... I did really hate the show I saw, and the live records don't interest me at all.

Yeah, the mystique was a big part of his whole thing. Surprising to see that go away.
Pretty cool that it went on as long as it did, but it's kind of like finding out who the Residents are. |

Jandek stuff's been on my mind for a while. He did perform at this hip art festival in helsinki and was playing piano. I've been under the impression that it was really a bore to watch it through (althogh I've also heard opposite verdicts from other direction).
I like a lot of songs I've heard, but I have a feeling it's kind of hit or miss and haven't had enough courage to buy his albums yet. |

before he started playing live most reviews of his records were saying he was past his best. i suppose a guy like jandek was probably never going to be much of a performer anyway.
