Pheromoans - I wasn't totally convinced by them until I saw them live. One of the better UK bands at the moment for sure.
Purling Hiss - Love at first sight. They saturate the sound of their instruments better than most, plus I like it how they kind of remind me of Nirvana if they were more psychedelic. TV Ghost - This band is on to great things. This band is here to stay. Red Mass - Not too familiar with them. I've heard one song a while ago and liked it. Tell me more please. Cult of Youth - I should like what this guy does, but can't get into it. Is the album Sacred Bones put out worth checking? I haven't given up on him yet. Something to do with vibes, yes. Birth - Don't know. Anika - Portishead-related, if I'm not mistaken? I haven't heard the record. Peter Kovolos - Know the name, never heard the music. Birds of Maya - I WANT TO BE IN THIS BAND Sightings - I'D LOVE TO BE THIS BAND The Mantles - I don't get the appeal, even though the only record of theirs I have I played only once. I'll re-visit it for sure. Bassholes - Legends. Cheveu - They're doing things with both underground pop and rock that nobody else is doing, with taste and interesting ideas. I think they're yet to produce THE Cheveu album though. Vee Dee - Again, I know the name and that's about it, I think. Lovvers - See above. What's with the two Vs? Trash Kit - I didn't like them live. I don't know them on record. Keep on meaning to check them out. Is the album that they put out last year worth getting? White Suns - Never heard of them Meercaz - Same Davila 666 - I am El Jesus de Magico - now Tyvek - going to bed. Goodnight. I have to get off this bus. I'll edit this post with comments on the rest later. |

Purling Hiss - liked their 1st album, couldn't see why I needed more of them, though, but I'd like to see them live - its fairly free garagey feedback rock
Birds of Maya - total guitar white-steel fizz recorded through a wet plastic bag, guitarist also in P. Hiss - relly like to see these guys live Sightings - brooklyn free music band, I wasn't that excited when I've seen them, but they have the right idea. Never cared for the bassholes, from what I recall they are a garage rock band, but they've been around for years so who knows what they sound like now, I used to play songs by them on the radio in the mid90's. |

Pheromoans - didnt really like them all that much, a bit fey for my liking
Purling Hiss - alright but sound too much like 100 other bands i know TV Ghost - as above Red Mass - as above Cult of Youth - prefer kevin ayers Birth - no idea Anika - nico eat yr heart out but not bad. Peter Kovolos - he was alright but i was too wasted to care. Birds of Maya - not impressed but the other people seemed to love them. Sightings - they where pretty good, shame it was a sunday night and i had to get up at 7am. they had some bass trouble too. The Mantles Bassholes Cheveu Vee Dee Lovvers Trash Kit White Suns Meercaz Davila 666 El Jesus de Magico Tyvek more later, i am too tired now.

I really love everything I've heard from The Sightings, awesome and somewhat dark band. Purling Hiss, i don't know very well but like what I've heard.
Deadpan nico-esque vocals generally bore me, so I didn't really pay attention to Anika. Did I really miss something? The Bassholes I've heard of (not heard any music) a few times, but their name always kept me from further investiagion. Is it a funny band? I don't like those. Will check out the rest of your list, thanks for the input. Check out the new Tumido record, it's available for free download from the Interstellar records website (some other interesting stuff on there aswell, Peach Pit, Metalycee, etc). http://www.interstellarrecords.at/media/ If you like over the top, heavy, "noise-rock'n'roll", chances are that you'll like it. (sorry, I suck at describing music). nik, what is it with you and the strong feelings concerning this board? |

EXCLUSIVELY FOR RECORD STORE DAY 2011, Permanent Records is proud to be releasing a very limited 12" split EP between two of America's finest underground psychedelic rock bands, Purling Hiss and Puffy Areolas.
Philly's Purling Hiss have quickly made a name for themselves and in just over a year have already released 3 critically acclaimed LPs on Permanent, Richie, and Woodsist in addition to an upcoming 12" release on Mexican Summer. They've toured with Kurt Vile and the Violators and share members with Birds Of Maya. Purling Hiss' side is an epic (nearly 9 minutes long) psychedelic noise rock burner complete with Mike Polizze's signature shred all over it. Ohio's Puffy Areolas have been destroying PA's and blowing minds at DIY venues for a couple years now. They are one of the best and most dangerous live acts going these days. They've released a handful of 7" singles and a well-received LP on Siltbreeze within the last year and are still raging across America leaving nothing but crushed beer cans, empty pill bottles, and roaches in their wake. Puffy Areolas' side of this split is a doom-y noise psych annihilator that clocks in a just under 8 minutes. Both sides of this deep groove 12" split EP were cut at 45 RPM for maximum volume. Not for the faint of heart. LIMITED TO 750 COPIES! |

Davila 666 - two songs of theirs I've heard floored me. They've been on my list of bands to explore deeper for a while. Somebody send them to Europe on a spaceship please.
El Jesus de Magico - I'd say I'm a fan, even though not a particularly loyal one. Tyvek - GONZO FUN! If they play in your town and you're in the mood to party, check them out. They play their garage rock with extra-pumped muscles and concinciving attitude. I often play ''Air Conditioner'' to wake me up properly in the morning. Occasional dodgy choices when it comes to record sleeves, mind. |

Iceage from Copenhagen are one of the best bands I've heard in a while. Currently waiting for a second pressing of this to arrive:
