The floods in Australia are the worst in history, one capital city will be flooded by tomorrow and the floods are currently covering a land mass bigger than france and germany combined. It is predicted that there will be flooding across 5 of the 7 states by the end of the week. It is absolutely insane and it is also predicted that over 100 or 200 people will be dead. It is the height of summer and it has been raing constantly for more than 6 weeks in Queensland and the amount of water is incredible. There was a tsumani several 100 km from the coast with waves up to 8 meters high.

I always think of Australia as basically a big desert island - I know thats not true. Seems this was a big surprise.
There are some people asserting the massive oil spill in the Gulf has changed the Gulf current, resulting in this years' cold spell in the UK and USA and other crazy weather changes globally. Which has also led to these huge fish kills. I'm just repeating this for discussion purposes, I haven't been convinced yet. I believe there are already methods in place to easily measure the currents and dis/prove this. |

The floods in Sri Lanka make for grim reading as well. The incessant torrential rain has resulted in 18 deaths and the displacement of almost a million people!

That's unlikely but would be totally insane if proved true. |

I don't want to rain on Australia's parade but torrential rain in Brazil has caused flooding and mudslides, killing 250 people!

is it hitting brisbane hard? the valley is rife with sin and i always thought it'd be a decent candidate for a godly flood.

My state is experiencing flooding also (I live in Victoria) it's obviously not as bad as Brisbane but it's slowly moving down and they can't stop it ATM and they believe 20% of the state will be affected by the flood soon.

Queensland can't get a break with a category 5 cyclone to hit today. the storm is nearly as big as the whole state.
