...and yours truly will be on the bill (with Thunderbolt Pagoda) as well in a couple of stops, namely St. Paul Minnesota and Chicago Illinois. I'm very excited to see them and to share the stage with them. For these two shows, Suishou no Fune will be joined on drums by Matt Zaun (of Salamander, Skye Klad, Blitzen, Di Dollari and more). Come and check it out if this kind of music is up your alley. All the other artists on these bills are worthy of your investigation as well. Hopefully a good time will be had by all.

Their sound contains subcutaneous elements of no-wave energy mixed with psychedelic rock a la early Fushitsusha or Kousokuya. Other songs approach balladry with oddly beautiful twinned vocals and distorted guitars. They have performed around Tokyo with a list of people who could succinctly be described as everybody and were even invited to play Scotland's Weekend festival in 2005. -- Holy Mountain The group's sound runs from massively distended nod-outs that recall parts of the first Fushitsusha album through weird duo tracks that orbit a parallel universe where late-period John Fahey was the prime influence on Charalambides, infernal Dead C/Gate style guitar abuse and achingly beautiful comedown ballads. The twin vocalists are massively different in their approach, with Pirako singing in a high wayward style that's all throat and no lungs while Kageo works from the other end of the pipes with a ripped Father Yod/Jim Morrison/Keiji Haino polyglot. Simply one of the greatest out-of-nowhere groups to come out of the Tokyo underground in years and the undisputed stars of PSF's recent Tokyo Flashback 5 compilation. --Volcanic Tongue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y74TJNwOXZ4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVmOHs0Isf0 http://www.thewire.co.uk/web/camera7.php |

Occasionally I get these pangs of regret that I ever left Chicago, akin to when I found out Diamanda would be performing in that horrible city come October. I think this is one of those pangs. Oh well. Have fun.

Yes, fucking right it would be. Goddamnit. There's always Megabus again, I suppose.... Anyway, it's twice at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Perhaps there are still some tickets left. I should find a friend and use the buddy system.

Well, they'll be in St Louis on October the 4th...
Or NYC on the 23rd of September. With your luck, you'll probably miss them both. |

Awesome.
During SXSW this last year I was fortunate enough to see Suishou on no less than three seperate occasions, each better than the last. . . not reallly. All equally wonderful. I'm listening to Thunderbolt Pagoda now for the first time. Killer stuff dude man bro. Y'all have any CDs available anywhere online? All I can find googling is the Angus Maclise record.

Much thanks. The tracks on the MySpace and Virb sites are just live stuff and a one-off cover version of a Loop song, but we have just finished our first studio LP, which should be out (hopefully) by Christmas. Just vinyl. |
