BOREDOMS "SUPER æ" 1998, Warner Music Japan/Birdman Though my favorite Boredoms album is Vision Creation Newsun, that's more for personal reasons.. mostly my memories attached to it... though, of course it's also an amazing album. But when asking about the BEST Boredoms album, there's no question in my mind. Wow2 and Chocolate Synthesizer are classics in their own right, and Boredoms rarely made anything that wasn't totally incredible.... but anyway, this album is their godlike peak; just totally incredible in every way... every facet of the sound was designed for maximum enjoyment, and there are sounds on here that I have no idea how they created (which is pretty mindblowing)... the songs are incredible, sometimes only relying on a couple of effects-drenched chords and other times going all out... perfect vocals, perfect musicianship (those drums!), perfect songwriting, perfect production. Honestly, one of the most perfect albums ever, and probably one of the best examples of guitar playing ever recorded. Seiichi is serioiusly a guitar god. Anyway, "Super Going" might just be my favorite song of all time. Highly reccomended... though you probably all already have this. |

its not my my favorite, its my third favorite (behind vision creation newsun and pop tatari), but i totally agree, its such a whacked and brilliant album. soooooo much different that the spazzcore noise rock they started out as. thats what i love abore boredoms, their ability to change and always remain exciting and mindblowing.

i love it to death, a good mix of their old style mixed with their more meditative style to come.
genius, some of the few musicians nowadays who deserve to be called that. |

there's a part that always gets stuck in my head near the end of the album, that repeated chant/bass line... "dun dun dun dun dun dun........ dun dun........ dun dun."
I have done more drugs to boredoms than any other band I think. |

This album scared the shit out of me the first time i heard it.
I had no idea how they made the noises on the album. It's still thrilling five years later |

Yeah, exactly, there's some really weird noises on here that I just have no idea about.
Obviously, a lot of the weird swooping sounds are done by fucking with equalizer settings... but that's about all I know. Unreal album. In related news, I just got an album by RUINZHATOVA, which has members of omoide hatoba/boredoms, ruins, and acid mothers temple. I'm almost scared to listen to it, it's probably too good... |

Boredoms are probably the most consistently awesome band of all time and this is their best album. All these bands today calling themselves 'tribal'
(like Animal Collective) should give this album a listen. Insanity! |

Why is this album better than God?
I used to think Boredoms were something I would probably just never see the appeal of. But I listened to this again after a few months of not listening to it and now it's totally clicked. I should listen to Vision Creation Newsun again just to make sure that clicks as well. Awesome. |

As silly as the notion is, i once considered this my "favorite album evarrr". Now ill just say i absolutely love it. somethign about it sounds fresh every time i bust it out, unlike every other one of their albums. theres always a new sound/section/moment that i never heard before. fine choice.

Ive listened to a fair bit of Boredoms stuff and its never really got me (bar this joyous youtube clip - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzConcr_03g.
But this one got me instantly, it makes total sense from the first second, its particularly good on trains or tubes or any other form of metro transport

This thread is interesting, because it's probably my least favorite Boredoms album. Clearly I'm the minority. Weird.
Ironically, it's the only Boredoms album I actually own, because it's the only CD I've seen at a record store. (Except for Super Roots releases, but I never know enough about those to buy them.) |

Once again I'm going to stick this album on and once again I'm going to be in a bad mood all day because it just sounds like shit afrobeat to me.

When you say 'those drums!'... there's just no variation on them at all. It's not that I'm after a load of swing, but it's just completely dead, just unrelenting cymbals. Really poorly recorded I might add. Where's the overtones? They're cunting the fuck out of the cymbals on every track, but there's not a hint of any high-end on the recording. This is on a major label as well! You just can't trust rock musicians.
Also, his voice really irritates me, in spite of the fact that he's an incredibly talented singer (certainly shits on Patton). Where are these weird tones you speak of? Perhaps you have shit-for-ears? Sorry. Nothing personal and all that, this album just winds me up.
