I'm a huge fan, and when I'm a huge fan of a band I'm always intrigued how they fared in the US. So to all you Americans out there, how did The House of Love fare in your country?

Too young to really remember (in the early 90s I cared about X-Men and Sonic the Hedgehog, not music), but VH1 Classic shows some of their videos on their 120 Minutes ripoff, so I imagine they got at least some recognition from that crowd.

When the Fontana album was rereleased in the States 120 Mins picked up "I Don't Know Why I Love You", and I found the original album in a mall in Wilkes-Barre, PA, so they got some backing, I suppose, if not exactly beating out "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" on Rock 107 rotation.

It seems once the band signed to the major label, Fontana Records, the US started to receive their output. Makes me wonder whether the US received their much superior output when signed to indie label, Creation Records. Look out for these two releases. They're both eponymously titled. You won't regret it.

I agree, but I don't see why you'd mention it in a thread about a band who sounded nothing like The Jesus and Mary Chain, unless it was a random thought you saw fit to mention in this thread. |

I have to add, they did record some gems for Fontana, one of them being The achingly beautiful song The Girl With the Loneliest Eyes.

Keeping.... Sorry if I was ambiguous. but the album I found in a mall in Wilkes Barre all those years ago was the pre-Fontana one, pictured above, with Christine/Road/Hope/Sulphur. So the US did get their stuff earlier.
It's just that nobody seems to have bought it. I think Never is one of the greatest singles I own. |

I remember listening to 'Love in a Car' a lot one summer, although I never particularly liked the album it was on.
