Mr. Ray Bradbury (1920-2012) he was 91. I had the pleasure of seeing him at a book fair a few years ago. He wasn't there to sell a book, he just talked about the things that inspire him as a writer. He said in recent years that "Fahrenheit 451" was misinterpreted. He hated the internet.

There is a La Weekly article from 2007 where he says its about how television destroys interest in reading literature. He says also in other interviews and this is a paraphrase. Books examine a topic at length, giving you extended information. Television gives you condensed information, essentially brief snippets that are often more one's opinions then factual information. "Fahrenheit 451", is how the state feeds the society with what it wants them to know through television, taking away the individual from forming new thoughts outside of what they are told.

Hmm. I don't see how that's inconsistent with how it's been interpretted. I thought that was the general understanding of what the book is about.

I loved hearing interviews with this man. Especially the stories of his meeting Mr Electrico and the story of him walking out on a talk show appearance the night of the moon landing because he had to wait for Engelbert Humperdinck to sing first.

I also treasure my copies of "Martian Chronicles" on LP, with Leonard Nimoy reading.
