heh, they used to be my favorite band a couple of years ago before i found out about city of caterpillar, orchid, etc.. today i listened to them after a long long time and hated it. although the song "love rhymes with hideous car wreck" did bring back memories..

there's been plenty of threads/opinions posted on them before...
Adultery is Ripe is decent... short, catchy, bizarre songs with some weird glam rock influences going on over the whole thing. Some interesting music (specifically some of the bizarre guitar lines), but all in all probably one of the worst bands I've ever heard, mainly because of the worst vocals I've ever heard in any band in my LIFE -- and the vocals are the main part of every song! Also gets special points for having terrible lyrics. I dunno. I just hate them... but adultery is ripe is a listenable album, if not much more. |

I found out a few weeks ago that the female vocals are actually a DUDE SINGING? Trippy.

I have always wondered how they managed to get two of the worst vocalists ever in the same band.

I think they're victims of their own hype. I saw them live opening for Trail of Dead (my wife used to play in T.O.D. and was Conrad's girlfriend ages ago, so we usually go hang out with them when they tour through town, though neither of us are huge fans of any of their records or anything). They were sort of o.k. hardcore influenced punk rock, but I got pretty bored with them after a while. I'm sure if they weren't supposed to be such a big thing, they wouldn't seem to fall so far short. The other opening band Celebration were way better, best thing I saw that night.
Backstage all of the bands and their friends were hanging out together, except the Blood Brothers who appeared to have some major junkie shit going down. How totally punk. |

Your wife seems cool... Trail of Dead are quite a big band. I'm assuming she was in the band when they worshipped Sonic Youth?

Yeah, she turned Conrad on to Sonic Youth actually. She left before anything was recorded and was in a two piece noise rock band called Pro Ex Marauders in Austin who are well worth seeking out. Her solo stuff is here, though she doesn't perform at all anymore because she just doesn't enjoy the stage anxiety. Thus her music page has turned into more of a personal page with some really amazing songs she made at home. There are more pictures of our son than anything music related now. |

I saw them supporting the Liars a few years ago. I didn't really like the music, but that's neither here nor there. What really pissed me off was how the crowd were mostly there for the Blood Brothers, and were really enthusiastic for them, but stood there like planks when Liars came on (and played an absolute blinder). This was 2nd album Liars if that makes any difference to anyone.
