As I know that SY-fans are open minded, I'm asking for recommendations in this genres.
My favourites: John Coltrane - Ascension (The Rova Live Recording is great!), Interstellar Space, Meditations, Sun Ship, Transition Rashied Ali & Frank Lowe - Duo Exchange Archie Shepp - Magic of Juju Don Cherry - Mu, Complete Communion,... Ornette Coleman - Free Jazz ; ) Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch Andrew Hill - Point of Departure Bobby Hutcherson - Dialogue Miles Davis - Live Evil (What I Say!!), Dark Magus, Pangaea,... John McLaughlin - Extraploation Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame and if you wanna add: Freddie Hubbard - Straight Life & Red Clay What else you I enjoy except these artists? And I dont like "Machine Gun" and Weather Report ; ) Thanks. |

You don't like machine gun?!?
You prob. won't like any peter brotzmann then, although some stuff is not so harsh. theres always bailey but thats solo guitar. zorn. I think tim berne does some free jazz, cant remember julius hemphil(sp?) some some different stuff. ornette is good, ive got "something else" by him pretty good. Wadada leo smith plays some mean trumpet, you should check out his colab with zorn in the 6th birthday series, some good stuff. your list is pretty good. edit: oh yeah, theres the "last exit" band. |

I remember listening to Coltrane's "ascension" for the first time. That shit gave me anxiety attacks, trying to do work while listening.

Magic of Juju damn i've been looking for that Shepp album forever...i've never heard it!!! damn it... and it has 5 percussionists on it, sounds like it be total insanity!
Albert Ayler: Love Cry (Impulse!) Feat. Albert's brother Donald on trumpet (on his last recording w/ his older brother before being committed to a mental institution) and the killer rhythm section of Alan Silva on bass and Milford Graves on Drums... forget those tracks that feat. Call Cobbs on organ, harpsichord, they sound corny but the rest is damn stellar the most killer march/free/march intensity, an obscure fav. of mine of the Ayler catalog also since its recorded quite well like most Impulse! recordings... |

Thanks, I remember looking on Amazon last year and not wanting to pay the $34 plus dollars for the only available import version on cd, so i just gave up... prices have dropped some and it seems to be more easily available now. they really should make a domestic (US) re-release... |
