...Learning the basic TM technique will set you back $1500 in the US. How much more money do you have? However much it is, it's not so much that you can't spend it all on TM. TMers often end up spending everything they have on TM-related offerings . For example: You will definitely want to purchase levitation instruction. The last I heard this is on the order of $3000.... ...A disturbing denial or avoidance syndrome, and even outright lies and deception, are used to cover-up or sanitize the dangerous reality on campus of very serious nervous breakdowns, episodes of dangerous and bizarre behavior, suicidal and homicidal ideation, threats and attempts, psychotic episodes, crime, depression and manic behavior that often accompanied roundings (intensive group meditations with brainwashing techniques). Euphemisms are employed to describe essentially dangerous, unstable and injurious behavior. "Unstressing," for example,... ...There were meditators who experienced serious breakdowns during and following meditation. MIU and the counseling staff usually opted for banishment in these cases, although their practices often triggered mental breakdowns. Many students who experienced severe and uncontrollable trauma from meditation came to me for assistance and counseling since Jonathan Shapiro and his staff were punitive and hostile in their "therapeutic" approach.... ... And as a trained "yogic flyer" himself Lynch practices this skill himself, faithfully, at least twice a day, whenever possible. Yes! Lynch believes that he can levitate!... SCAM ALERT. back before the 08 crash these clowns DIRECTLY CLAIMED that their meditation retreat had caused the recent upswing in the stock market. fucking new age hippie twats scammed by the allure of eastern mysticism. sad. and mr. lynch, shame on you. also your films are overrated as fuck. |

for some interviews with a MIU graduate gone christian check out the awesome movies "the new age: a pathway to paradise" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc0RRDOh6EM
and cult explosion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pjf-99c1NSE way better movies than lynch could ever make. pathway to paradise is awesome cult explosion features famed author/black panther/ NOI member frolicking around with a golden retriever in his dungarees talking about jesus haha. also features people involved with jim jones and stuff. as well as lots of info on things that aren't often called cults, such as hinduism, mormons and jehovah's witnesses both films feature rabindranat maharaj who is one of my fav christian doc. personalities also check out the hall & oates song "gino the manager" which i guess is about some sleazy mafioso style pop manager who's getting guru'd out for the new age lol "transcendetal meditation works fine ohhh" i wanna get into TM. these born again christians think that it's very dangerous because you run a risk of demonic possession or becoming a satan worshipper/hindu(same thing it turns out) but i don't really believe in that so it just sounds like a cool way to use the mind to get new experiences without even leaving the house. |

i actually took a few classes and learned how to do it. the teacher and his wife weirded me out and it was kinda clear at that point that it was a cult so i never went back to anything related to TM.
the meditation itself is pretty great. i still do it today. it's clear that it is "working". prior to that when i would try to meditate i never really felt i got anything from it. i wish i could teach it but i wouldnt know how. |

meditation is a good thing but doesn't need to be of the "transcendental" variety. just like working out doesn't require you to do, say, "zumba", or whatever the fuck.

What is the origin of this magic? These have quite literally taken over South Central and unincorporated LA like some cracking Botanica and now all the abuelas and even sexy mami's are parking grips of strollers out front and you hear salsa and norteno music blasting early in the morning..

actually that was Kennebunk, Maine, next to my hometown. I was wondering if anyone I knew would get named. So far, and surprisingly, not. she also videoed every human encounter. Fucking whore. And it is true if you are opening your chakras without proper preparation you can open yourself up to detrimental entities. |

i don't agree. an athlete doesn't do the same workouts as a regular person, and a boxer doesn't do the same exercises as a swimmer because different techniques accomplish different goals with different efficacy similarly somebody who wants to meditate to relax wouldn't do TM because it can involve jumping up and down screaming yr lungs out for hours until you're tripping balls. |

doesn't TM require you to be given your mantra or some such shit by some paid guru? what i mean is, i'd join TM if i wanted to join a brainwash cult, not if i wanted to "meditate." (same with zumba. see.) |

it doesn't really require anything. the organisation does but a bajillion people know how to do it so you could sidestep them lol Pretty much any word or syllable will do, despite the hype of TM, which insists that a mantra can only be given by a "qualified" instructor. The TM initiate is told never to reveal her mantra under any circumstances, lest its magic be lost. My instructor suggested that he had some particular insight into me in choosing my mantra, but this is utter nonsense. People who have taught TM have admitted that they are given a list of mantras they’re supposed to divvy out according to age and gender. Nothing mystical about it. Here’s one list, which contains a version of my "personal" mantra. In violation of the sacred rules of TM, I’m now going to reveal it to you: “aima.” That’s my mantra. Two syllables. Vaguely pleasant sounding. If I repeat it consistently for several minutes, I begin to feel a little spacey. The same thing happens, I have found, when I repeat the word “Tallahasee.” http://www.alternet.org/economy/tran...ace?page=0%2C1 the list http://caic.org.au/eastern/sydda/free-tm.htm |

I think if anything, cults and charlatans point out the importance of knowing what you're fucking with. Like DJ Quik said,"When you talk about death, you're talking with Spirits." People have this post-God view of the world as if the spiritual realm was harmless. This is reckless and potentially dangerous. If you're going to meditate, which is more a spiritual act than just a mental exercise, you got to be careful on exactly who you meditate on. Even the emptiest words carry spiritual meanings which have been lost over time. Y'all been warned. Me? I meditate with the professionals..
