There is a track on one of My Bloody Valentine's EPs that sounds exactly like I Wanna Be Your Dog too, right down to the one-note piano riffing. So obvious that it's far more "homage" than "ripoff."

I think that would be 1969, so Stooges definitely get credit.
Then again, it's a pretty boneheaded descending riff that would come intuitively to anyone with rudimentary guitar chops and a desire to rock, so none too surprising that it would turn up elsewhere... |

true, but i can only assume that the Fall knew the stooges music well enough?? maybe not. but IWBYD is/was a fairly big song...

I think that The Fall maybe did take the Stooges riff on elves but I'll be damned if I'd ever say that to Mark E Smith's face!

Rip Off or knowledgable nod? The Fall rehashed the same riff on another song as well, and they've re-used lots of their riffs. The Fall's music, strictly speaking, isn't really what's exciting about them. I prefer the Fall a million to the Stooges, who I just quite like. 3-4 decent albums versus 20+ brilliant ones. That's my equation, and if I see it anywhere else, I'm suing.

dumb question.
but the stooges probably nicked it from some garage band from oklabama who only released one 7" and lasted for 8 weeks. |
