Well it was great except for one thing: they played exactly the same setlist than yesterday....

Incinerate
Sleepin Around
Do You Believe In Rapture
Pink Steam
Shaking Hell
Rats
Pacific Coast Hiway
Stones
Turquoise Boy (2 times: thurston made a mistake and Kim yelled "Stop!!! Let's start this again!")
Lights Out
Sunday
Brother James
----------------------
Making The Nature Scene
Or
----------------------
Mote (with noiiiiise)

PCH and BROTHER JAMES were stunning..............

I'm sorry, i couldn't record this, the security guy took my MD.

Yes, nice show, better than the yesterday one at le mouv', even if the setlist was the same... You didn't record it but you tried to, and that's nice. I hope someone did. And yes, great PCH !!!

I'm not agree , I don't think that the tonight show was a good one. The band started in a really good mood and according to the size of the venue it could have been a fantastic concert, we will probably never see sonic youth play in such a small venue.
But why have they played exactly the same songs as the day before in the same order!!!

I don't like the new songs at all, some of them are not bad but just not bad, it's not like when I have heard NYCG&F for the first time and I said "whoa, I love the new sonic sound"... I think that most of the audience doesn't really enjoyed the new songs... To me many new songs could have been bonus songs on Psychic Heart, but not in the new sonic youth LP...
.
About old songs, it's great to hear Making the nature scene and Shaking Hell in concert, but the 4 pieces version of Stone isn't as good as the one they played on the nurse tour.. Sunday was not very good tonight and PCH was better in my opinion when Jim was playing the bass and Kim was only singing and played trumpet...
But the brother Jam version tonight was good and the final noise tonight was great, the kind of Steve drum solo was excellent.
I have made a recording of the show, I will probably seed it on DIME in a couple of week...

In a way I understand your opinion, even if don't agree with all your arguments. I feel like if these 2 shows was some "test shows" with a kind of typical setlist for the coming tour. But sure the show could have been better in this so small place. And to finish I think (like you obviously) that NYCG&F was the last innovative album they did, since murray street they seems like being more pop and less innovative, but rather ripped is going to be better to my mind...

80's material is so far better than the new one. i know this fact
for a long time now but it was almost painfull to hear last night
the difference between what they used to be and these new little
nicey rather ripped flat rockish tunes.

i don't know what to think about this gig. of course shaking hell,
pch, brother james, pink steam was ok.

i don't know what to think about rather ripped... anyway

I left last night gig in a very good mood, kinda hazy too.
I woke up early, with Incinerate in mind.
I'd agree that Stones was so-so & Sunday even so-so-er but... Mote was "catchy", erm... what else... I was so close to the band, even touched TM (will that make me wiser, talented? don't except to believe someone who would say yes)... erm... Yeah, I still feel good. Kim's face singing PCH was something to see - her eyes on that song... Erm... Also, Thurston played the bass on three tracks : Shaking Hell, Rats (am I correct?) & Nature Scene (Kim didn't play any instrument on that one and moved closer to the crowd)... Richard Edson, in the liner notes of Sonic Youth s/t was right when he mentioned that Thurston was amazing when he played that instrument (I liked his whole rendition of the time he spent within the band)... Director Claire Denis (Trouble Every Day, S'en fout la mort, etc.) was on the stage, in the background, shooting, but I don't know whether it's gonna be used or not (and what for? a SY thing? a film she'll be doing? something for television? something for a magazine that'd offer a DVD? dunno)... And I said hello to Brigitte Fontaine, who gave me back a magic smile... Shaking Hell, Brother James; yeah...
Gonna go see Ice Age II with my niece later on.
Hope (Tristan seeds / you'll seed) the show when he / you find(s) time & feel(s) like doing so. Bye now.

nouveau casino wasn't full crap...

I hope they play Reena in Philly. I like it just as much as Incinerate. It's good to see lots of CIS/KYI material on the setlist. As far as Sister goes, I think I'd rather hear Schizophrenia than PCH. And they really should represent DDN with at least one song. Closing with Mote is pretty cool.

35€ for a show is expensive anyway, but it was SY in a small venue playing their new songs !!! And nobody force you to go to this show, and i think this kind of show was foreseeable

maybe sunday and stones were not the best versions that i've ever heard to sy. you know, jim's guitar in stones it's absolutelly great, and on sunday, lee's sounds were a little absent . oh, and in my opinion the live version of rats maybe needs more practice, too.

really a surprise that they played the same setlist, but anyway, for me, the highlights were:
pch, maybe the best of the show.
shaking hell, this live version it's a must!!!
mote, one of the greatest noise-ending that i've saw to the band.
Do you believe in rapture and pink steam were great numbers, too.

all i can say is thanks again, sonic youth.
see you soon!

This Nouveau Casino (NC) show was really excellent, I appreciated it a lot more than the one for Le Mouv', mainly I guess because I was much closer to the scene (2nd row in front of Thurston). And the sound was also much better.

Random Trivia:

1. About Claire Denis:
She was asked by the band to record the NC gig, and they may use the result for a video for a new song.
She recorded the whole show & she had 2 other people with running cameras.

Apparently, she was the reason for these shows in Paris: her birthday was on 21st April ! I heard that she recorded all 3 shows (Mouv' Radio + NC + Point Ephémère).

2. The first 3 songs of the gig were also recorded for the "Tracks" TV show on Arte channel. They will probably keep one song only and broadcast it in June.
Maybe it will be available on their web site, also at that time.

3. And new T-shirts were available, with design based on the Rather Ripped cover.

I checked out the 4/19 show..."Shaking Hell" blows my mind, and I did notice that Thurston plays bass on "Rats", so you are correct, Bertrand. My memory isn't quite on right now but I think this is the first album track since "My Friend Goo" that Thurston plays bass on, and also the first Lee song Thurston plays bass on....XXXX K NEVERMIND---I totally forgot, even though I thought of it before I made this post, that Thurston plays bass on "LEe #2" as well.....

The songs actually have some similiarities, I think...(some)

cool, I didn't know Thurston was playing bass on those...
Sleepin' Around has a decidely VU-ish quality to part of the main riff; during the beginning of Or, one of Lee's parts is fairly reminiscent of Robbie Krieger's lines in The Doors' The End.
I liked it (4/19) & the fm sound quality on that one is really nice. Yeah...Shaking Hell was a treat. I still haven't listened to 4/20 which is audience-sourced (& got all those negative performance quality reviews opn the first page)...gonna do that now.

One wouldn't expect Sonic Youth to play an identical setlist like that two nights in a row though, really. Usually they seem to vary it by a song or two & keep the core the same for the particular tour leg.

& thanks again, Bertrand, for that help you sent me
man, lucky you at all these shows

--okay i'm back now & i listened to the audience one 4/20 & the performance is good.
