So I was listening to Pandora and it played unwound so I've watched some videos on youtube and they seem to be fucking great. So could you guys be so kind as to recommend me some of their cds?

All of them. That isn't meant to be smart assed either.
My favorite is Leaves Turn Inside You, but that is them at their highest maturity as a band. My second favorite is Repetition which was kind of the jumping off point at which they began experimenting with a lot more studio experimentation rather than merely documenting their powerful live sound. I'm also very sentimentally tied to that one, but it would still be a favorite album if I wasn't. I agree with Sonic Youth 37 about New Plastic Ideas too. That's their noise-rockiest record in a lot of ways. The old Sonic Youth influence is more blatant on NPI than on some other albums, but that only makes it resonate more. |

Repetition is the only one I own. It's OK, probably only a few songs I like off it. The first and last tracks are fantastic.

I only own one of their albums, Challange For A Civilised Society, and it's really, really good.

Challenge for a Civilised Society and Leaves Turn Inside You are my favourites, as probably noted in one of the other Unwound threads.

Leaves Turn, New Plastic, Repetition are the trilogy I'd suggest.

It's fairly excellent, I think it's my third favourite record of theirs. I think I sort of forget about it a lot as I only have it as a download, never managed to score an actual copy of the CD, which sucks

Again, I fucking love unwound also... I'm not sure why everyone suggests repitition though as it is my least favourite out of everything they've done. Also with Leaves Turn Inside you - which is undoubtedly great and otherwordly it's kind of unlike anything else they've done so i dont think a good place to start... Unless you're really into radiohead and godspeed and mogwai - because that's kind of why everyone loves it.
Anyway, im talking shit... My favourite by them is probably a toss up between Fake Train and Challenge for Civilized Society (though it has to be the version with all the extra stuff on it or might not think so) Fake Train is like the raw in your face album - if you like that kind of thing and Challenge is great because it starts off with these solid catchy songs and then completly turns into a psychedelic noise freakout (maybe no the best way of putting it) but it eases so well into the other. As for Future of What - that might be a good one to start on though as i'd say it's more of a song album than an album album... Like it's a pretty good indicator of what unwound is though it's not consistant it probably has some of their best songs on there. |
