I don't think we've had a thread like this before, and it could be of some use for those about to splash out on new records. Anyway, post new releases, even if only in a digital format etc.

New Spectre Folk lp "Compass, blanket, lantern, mojo" OUT NOW on ARBITRARY SIGNS!
One Sheet Spectre Folk Compass, blanket, lantern, mojo Arbitrary Signs LP - 003 listen: www.myspace.com/spectreflux As anxiety encroaches with the cold air of winter thank the stars for the whiskey/weed warmth of Compass, blanket, lantern, mojo --- it flows through you like a liquid howl of light. Th u r st on Mo or e For an out-of-it fogie like myself, it’s tough to keep up with the many musical hats our boy Peter Nolan sports. There’s of course The Magik Markers and then there’s Lil Dusty, Spectre Flux, Spectre Folk, Folk Spectre, Cops, etc. I gotta admit I sorta lost the thread on Petes’ musical output for awhile there due to the simple fact I couldn’t keep up with it all. My chrome dome would literally throb with all the names and phony catalogue numbers that must accompany all these sound whims that must fly off his ginger head like bats from a belfry. Luckily, I put down the Brupenex long enough to catch up with “Compass, Blanket, Lantern, Mojo’, Nolans’ latest expulsion under his Spectre Folk moniker. As expected, the album reeks of the musty homespun psychedelic scent that would make both Al Simones and Uncle Neil Young red as a beet. The tunes are hazy with hope and bobbing audio to spare. Seagulls or rusty bedsprings sound off in the crackly distance on one track and I get a salty taste in my mouth like I licked the third pier boardwalk in Wildwood circa ’79. And check out the track ‘Burning Bridge’ where Petes’ voice soars and wavers like a wounded dove flying to the safety of a clean cage and the awaiting name of ’Walter’. The whole thing is a gorgeous, fully conscious stumble into a self made sunset and it just reminds me of something someone never said to me ‘It’s not over until you declare everyone a loser and paint yourself in a corner’. Tony Rettman Guidoville, New York November 2009 I dig the home-made sounds of Spectre Folk's new 'Compass, Blanket, Lantern, Mojo' long-player. Burning Bridge, for one, is sure to be the new late night/early morning/coming down/post-trip/mellow'd out/sitting around a campfire or by a lake or in a Williamsburg bedsit song. Pure and darkling anthems for the onset of those long winter nights a-comin'... Lee Ranaldo NYC Oct 09 Recorded Summer 2009 by Spectre Folk at the Homemade Casino in Greenpoint. All tunes by Pete Nolan Pete sings and plays Art and Lutherie acoustic, 2008 American Les Paul, drums, Juno 12, tapes etc. Violet shakes and Julie Tomlinson Nolan sings backup on Burning Bridge. Violet howls at the end of Ages. Violet Ray Nolan was there lending howls and vibes at every step. Track titles: 1. Falling off the map 2. Toot toot! 3. Sat around for peace (this time) 4. Ages have passed 5. Dusty's rag 6. 8 foot wings 7. Burning Bridge 8. Groovy garbage, man http://arbitrarysigns.blogspot.com/ |

Artist: Nurse With Wound Title: Space Music Label: Beta-lactam Ring Records Format: LP Catalog #: mt080 Condition: new Price: $25.00 Description: To be issued late Nov. 2009 in a deluxe custom designed book bound gatefold sleeve and 220 gram vinyl. The first 300 copies are on colored vinyl. Bonus picture disc LP available to subscribers of Records are not for Baking. Tears for spheres. Be warned: the sounds you are hearing are NOT marmots eating your tweeters, though you are best advised to apply volume lightly at first. Stapleton’s astral weeks have been spent distilling sounds into sipping moonshine. LITERAL moonshine. After a viscerally present launch cycle, the Voyager Nurse Module is designed to be piloted by the out-of-body listener. With Lilith-like subtlety, the concrete powered craft makes its way ever closer to the edge of the galaxy. Which one? Who knows? Whichever it is, Vaclav Helhybel (Outer Space: Music) and Frank Perry (Deep Peace) are there, waiting to celebrate the space escapade with chilled cocktails and green friends. http://www.blrrecords.com/prod/2051/space_music.html |

Sundog Peacehouse - Brosound
Format:Cassette,Limited Edition Country:US Released:2009 Genre:Electronic Style:Ambient,Drone,Experimental Tracklist 1 - Sometimes I Still Think About You (6:36) 2 - Truce Canyon (2:54) 3 - Infinite Life (5:01) 4 - Mountain Triple Ocean (12:00) 5 - Moss Gnomes (4:00) 6 - Wind Kid (7:23) 7 - Complete With Sword (9:09) 8 - Vashti (4:42) the first time i heard this trio i was absolutely smitten. sundog peacehouse are chris mucci, sal farina and austin redwood and will soon be taking over their native pittsburgh by lulling everyone into a codeine coma. shimmering walls of heavily-processed vocals, guitars and samples ease you down into emerald green pools of total bliss. pure waves of spiralling sonics drench you and hold you close. there is something so unbelievably comforting about this music that it's impossible to get away from, impossible to ignore. having shared bills with caboladies (past) and bardo pond (future), you get any idea where these soaring aural dreams are going to take you. sundog peacehouse are stunning, simply put. don't wait around for the surf to break you out, just stay sunkissed and in love

Surgeons – Whip Them Lord 7″
Los Angeles is home to SURGEONS (ex Le Face) who just released their disturbing debut 7″, titled Whip Them Lord on the Total Punk label based in Florida. The folks at Total Punk definitely stick to their plans with the release of this troubling single. Surgeons supply us with a brutally lo-fi and murky strand of raw punk rock here that is drenched by an outer layer of filth and grime. Underneath thrives a sea of sharp and shredded guitar hooks drowned in the muffled and wonky bass lines that push the song forward, not to mention the spastic and raspy vocals that guide us through the madness. Both of these just-barely-over-two-minutes tracks definitely seem to share some (if not all) of these qualities, whether it’s the mysteriously bubbling black hole in the middle of “Whip Them Lord” or the razor sharp guitar cuts of “In My Scope.” You can check both of these songs below, then head on over to Florida’s Dying where you can either buy the 7″ itself, or buy the 7″ and a limited edition promo poster. Do it! http://styrofoamdrone.com/2012/07/24...-7/#more-15370 |
