The silent film thread reminded me of what the Cartoon Network used to air before the oh so popular adult swim. "Late night black and white", anyone used to watch this? It was an hour long of cartoon shorts from the twenties and older. They showed old, old cartoons of "Popeye" and of course "Betty Boop". Before "Robot Chicken" and all those fifteen minute shows they air now, thier was "Late Night Black and White", too bad they don't show that anymore.

they might still show that on Boomerang. it's CN's other channel for older cartoons.

I'm not too into old cartoons. I used to love Cartoon Network. I like cartoons from the early 90's, my childhood. Batman, Doug, X-Men, Space Ghost, early Dexter's Laboratory. And there are some good recent shows on Cartoon Network - Courage the Cowardly Dog (1999-2002) was great. I see nothing wrong with CN, really, except that Adult Swim is going downhill very quickly.

I agree wholeheartedly. I wrote a big editorial on the state of CN, it's programming and all the good memories I have from/as a kid but when I clicked post reply i got a vbulletin telling me i wasn't logged in when i was. Then I wrote an abridged version but the same thing happened to me again. So screw it. I restarted my computer, logged in and typed this. Space Ghost rules, Cartoon Cartoons were awesome, they shouldn't be showing live action shit. Fridays is retarded. Poor kids these days. Doug was awesome. Hey remember Sheep in the Big city? Check my avatar. smiley. blah blah etc etc et al.

I actually had high hopes for Tom, but it kind of disappointed me. The guys who made it are pretty hilarious. They're like that in "real life". I mean I haven't met them, but in interviews and stuff. I'm sure it's still an act, but they're interesting.
Right now I think Adult Swim's best shows are Futurama and maybe Harvey Birdman. I liked AquaTeen for a bit, but I don't know if it got worse or I just got sick of it. Never liked Sealab. I have mixed feelings about Family Guy - at the moment I can't stand it. I won't even start on the live action crap. I think Robot Chicken is a decent show, but it's not a cartoon. Why is it there? Home Movies was a great show, but it was a real love-it-or-hate-it deal. I understand why they'd cancel it, but that was kind of where I gave up on CN altogether. I have the first three SG:C2C DVDs. There's a Thurston performance extra that I posted about a few days ago. Excellent. I know there were a lot of people asking for a Big Sheep DVD. I never actually watched it much, but what I saw was really good. |
