He was the guitarist of French band les Rita Mitsouko. I'm not a huge fan, but he had moments like the song "C'est comme ça" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BggXhzUhZ94), and the band was surely important to French rock (which is usually pitiful ).

I'll add that I've never read that in French press but Les Rita Mitsouko surely owe a lot to Talking Heads and Siouxsie (that's obvious in Catherine Ringer's singing for the latter).
