This tread is bound to die but anyway....
Anyone heard the new Darkthrone album F.O.A.D? It's not going to change your life or anything but it's a lot of fun. Sounds like a blackened Turbonegro or something.

I just can't hang with the new Darkthrone.
I didn't really care for the NWOBHM ep, and this record really didn't do much more for me. Transylvanian Hunger is still the tops for me, and i really only listen to their shit from that period. The rest of it is a little, uh, blah... |

not really the answer you're looking for, but have a read of this if you're on the market for new BM http://www.benwestdesign.net/oakenthrone/history.html you can't order it from the publisher though, but the contact page tells you where you can find it. |

Mayhem's "Ordo Ad Chao" is pretty good stuff.

Job well done.
Not that it pissed me off, as I don't expect anything mindblowing from them and haven't since the mid90's... I just doubt that I'll ever purchase another 'throne record. But i think i read that same interview or one similar to it, and I think he was getting at the orthodox BM police who aren't getting down the the black n' roll stuff they've been doing for the last few years (and kind of always have). I guess there's still some people who wish they kept on putting out the same fucking album over and over again (which they kinda did), but Darkthrone records do display a little variety, at least more than say, Bolt Thrower. Darkthrone = AC/DC of BM |

As far as black metal is concerned, I actually really dug the new Dodheimsgard album, "Supervillian Outcast". Imagine black metal that.. has really melodic parts (but not bad), electronics (but not bad), and abruptly changes many many times in every song -- and when I say abruptly, I mean.. going from like 500bpm to 50bpm.. it's very very odd stuff, actually, but I really enjoy it. They're called "avant garde black metal", not sure what the fuck THAT means, but okay...

i thought that ferniz and nocturno were listening to circle and just thought "you know? the funny parts are fantastic, we should do that!!!"
of course it's not th, it's not under a funeral moon, it's not a blaze in the northen sky, but they already did those albums, i rather have them sing "canadian metal" than trying to do another transilvanian hunger and fail miserably like half the black metal world scene. but yeah, post-transhung, they are like a very bad death metal band. and yeah, ordo ad chao is very fucking awesome. |

With new-ish black metal the two bands I've been listenign to most are Bone Awl and Ash Pool. Both have a bit of a punk/hardcore sound with few bells and whistles. Prurient is the singer for Ash Pool which suits well.

Just listened to the new Glorior Belli record, "Manifesting the Raging Beast", and it totally slays.
Highly recommended. |

I know a Norwegian guy who does the commentary for Eurovision and he wrote an article about black and death metal that was published on the Norwegian national press. There was outrage because his name is associated with sugary pop and the like, but he is kind of a closet black metal fan. If anyone is interested I can ask him to have a translation of said article.
Demonrail - Check out a cool compilation called Primitive Finland. My favourite band on it is Clandestine Blaze. |

By the way, I have only heard a couple of tracks off the new Darkthrone album and liked them.

Negura Bunget kick serious Romanian black metal bottom - they're so remorselessly grimm, they even employ a headbanging glockenspiel player.
