I have a curious hankering for some off the wall goof ball noise antics ala Cap'n Beefheart/ LAFMS bands / boredoms/ fugs/ nihilist spasm band etc.
May I kindly solicit your guidance in selecting recorded media of this nature? My knowledge of this area is more or less limited to the artists mentioned above, so fire away. Thanks. H&B ($$$)

Have you ever heard of the Mackenzies? They were around inthe mid 1980's, sold no records whatsoever, but I liked them. I'm uploading their Peel Session tracks now for you*.
Probably nothing like what you were after, but I like them, and it was accidentally coming across one of these tracks being played by Peel whilst scanning the radio that made me aware of alternative music and all that. 26 minutes left, it would seem.

Incidentally, hat and beard, I obtained this material from a now-defunct blog called Awkward Beefheartian Music of the 1980s. That was made me think of them when I read this thread.

I was thinking Fred Lane before I scrolled down to see that Bytor Peltor had beaten me to it!
That shit is amazing. "From The One That Cut You" is just as good as Car Radio Jerome; both are brilliant. I would also highly recommend Albert Marcoueur. And I hope I spelled that right. Phil Minton's solo vocal LP "A Doughnut In Both Hands" would also fit the bill nicely IMO. |

I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of it. I was only really aware of what was in the charts at the time, but I came across the Mackenzies part of the way into Gobstopper. It just sounded bizarre, and by the time I'd heard it a few times I loved it. The vocals, and the sax solo appearing in the middle of all that racket especially struck me, I think.
