i am not sure but i might have a problem with my mic entrance. the one that's next the headphones (where i plug in the cable for bass guitar, guitar, etc.)
it sometimes does weird noises like the cable doesn't work, but i brought it to a friend's house today and it worked for him. so could it be the computer?

hmmm

hmm, so you're talking about the OPTICAL/ DIGITAL AUDIO I presume.

If you were using the same cable, guitar, and speakers, I would assume it's the computer no settings were changed. What type of weird noises? And were you using the same speakers?

the cable
which tells me that it's not working for me, so the problem is the computer, i guess
or the little plug in that goes in the little hole.

exactly! the optical/digital audio. that's what i am talking about.
the problem is that it looses contact, like something is not right because the sound cuts and i have to move the cable until it starts working again. i thought it was the cable, but after i used it at my friend's house i found out it's not that...
could it be the optical/digital audio thing? like it fucked up on the inside?
what should i do?

Annoying, the apple site won't let me look at the picture unless I add it to my trusted site. I don't trust apple. I'm gonna guess then its a crappy jack. This is the weak link in so many pieces of equipment. Manufacturer saves 50 cents by installing a piece of crap. Can you wiggle it and it then sort of works ok?

haha pookie.

contre-- yes it sounds like your mic connector there became loose-- the jack as opposed to the cable itself. i've had that happen with headphones, people pull them from the cable carelessly and kaput, your $100 monitor headphones are useless.

first i thought it was my camera and i was gonna cry like a baby, then i tested other headphones & realized it was the headphones. so yes, process of elimination works here to identify the culprit.

if it's the mic jack (the little hole), this should be a minor repair, but you'd have to open the case to verify/replace. not sure if you have a warranty? you should be covered.

for further info try contacting terminal pharmacy here-- he really knows audio.

si, gracias.
i guess i still get to have it repaired for free since i bought it last december...but the first time i took my first macbook (the one that eventually was replaced for the one i am using right now) to the macstation they had to keep it in order to change it's screen because of a dead pixel. when they asked me to pick it up because they weren't getting any screens for 2 weeks, it was completely scratched. as if i had been using it for like 5 years. i got so angry. my mother screamed so much that they ended up giving me a new one. so that's why i rather not have to take it there... i hope i don't have to, really hasdjhjdsa

yeah, i have to move it a little bit 'till it "connects" and works perfectly, but if i make a sudden move it stops working again..

oh yeah, that is the problem. it needs fixing. just make sure it's not the cable, that the cable works ok without wiggling. in other places. try also with different cables to be sure it's not *that* cable. cables crap out like that.

if you don't want them to mess with it, and you can spend a little $, you could buy a firewire interface instead, which would allow you multiple mics and the use of multitrack audio software...

i wouldn't recommend you try to open up the laptop yourself though, those can be tricky & hard to put back together, and void your warranty... it's a pity but yest it's a 50 cent piece of crap that it's runing a $2000 computer.

the firewire interface would be better than your audio card though, i think.

i don't think i understand that firmware interface thing's function.
i'll see what i can do...
a guy gave me the address of a place called MacSoul here in Buenos Aires. they fix apple computers for free if you are in the period of warranty. so i'll see what happens tonight. if it definitely is the sound card or something from inside the macbook i'll have to call there.
but i find it quite doubtful that they repair them for free...

a FIREwire interface is like an external soundcard, with XLR and 1/4" mic inputs that you connect to your computer via firewire.

it lets you record multiple tracks so you can edit/tweak each instrument separately after recording, with programs like protools, etc. they are really really nice...

(i'm not recommending this one in particular-- but it just looks pretty).

i'm quite sure the problem with your machine is not the sound card though, but the connector, from what you describe, clearly that's what it is. it should't be more expensive than opening the thing, soldering a replacement, and closing it again. don't let them scam you!

it was the adapter!
but still, i'd like to get one of those firmware interface you are talking about.

Yeah. My best bet is that it's the adapter; I've had to do that with mine tonnes of times until I tried out different ones. However, it still may be the jack. You can try plugging in a computer mic into it and see if you still have the same problem. The firewire interface is probably what you should go for though, especially with a laptop. That's what I plan to get soon enough.

While we're on the subject, I just got myself a mighty mouse and it's WICKED. The touch sensitivity thing is nifty. And my macbook pro is supposed to be in tomorrow!

it's FIRE chica, FIRE. fuego, no firme.

el "firmware" es el software que tienen los aparatos como CD players etc, metido por ahi, para que funcionen.

FIREWIRE is a type of computer port. refer to photo above. & it's FAST!!
