The Stooges (fast forwarding through the BORING SONGS, yeah you heard me. "penetration" is dull as fuck. "I Need Somebody" is dull as fuck. "Shake Appeal" sounds like little richard on a bad night.)

the stooges are my favorite band (besides the velvets), but yeah their first s/t has some boring ones, but fun house and raw power are perfect in my opinion. anyways, im a huge curtis mayfield fan too. one of the best voices, and some of the best lyrics ever. |

raw power is 1/4 dull.
some all time greats though more than m,ake up for it. the first one is like mudhoney in that half the songs are dirges that go nowhere and leave you feeling like you got cheated.

Haha. Well, I just heard one album 5 years ago, and it was nothing but pitch shifted slow sludgey rocky shit, but it entertained me in weird ways.

See, there's no reason to post in the other thread, because that's just "bands you've gotten into recently". And that OTHER thread is just "recent listening". This is an all-encompassing "bands I've listened to lately" thread. I like this one.

I thought they were okay before I'd heard stuff like Yaphet Kotto (why doesn't anyone on here talk about them? Surely one of the best bands ever) but then.. wow. You couldn't pay me to listen to 'em nowadays. So fucking annoying. I think Blood Brothers breaking up was the best news of 2007. The only listenable CD they did was "Adultery is Ripe". They just seemed like if my little sister wanted some kind of pop-parody of Gravity Records or something.
Probably the most hilarious vocalists ever, though, gotta give 'em that. And their lyrics are so over-the-top funny at times. And those one string guitar lines actually were pretty comedic. Come to think of it, their art/song titles/etc -- they were a joke band, RIGHT? But yeah, I'm glad people like them, I just think they're amongst the worst bands ever, and every side project involving their members is even worse (Head Wound City? I mean, seriously!). As far as similiar bands spawned from the same scene, I really dug that last Daughters album, "Hell Songs". They cut out the screaming, it sounds like David Yow is vocalizing for them now, cool shit. |
