heehee... "... In the musical sense, yacht rock refers to the highly polished brand of soft rock that emanated from Southern California during the late '70s and early '80s. In part, the term relates to the stereotype of the yuppie yacht owner, enjoying champagne and smooth music while out for a sail. Additionally, since sailing was a popular leisure activity in Southern California, many "yacht rockers" made nautical references in their lyrics and album artwork, particularly the anthemic track "Sailing" by Christopher Cross..." |

This entry refers to Seals and Crofts as "lesser artists!" The blasphemy! And no mention of Pablo Cruise?

I remember reading in a Sonik Death fanzine circa 1995, that Walter Becker (of yacht rock fav's Steely Dan) thought SY's Washing Machine was one of the best albums of '95. I wonder how "smooth" he thought the music was. Imagine Ted Templeton producing the next SY album... pure bliss baby. pure bliss... |

i made a post on yacht rock when i first found this board and it didn't get any response.
glad to see that it was just a poorly timed thread, and not an indication of sonic youth fans ignorance of the power of really smooth music.... "hard rock don't get my cock hard....the Doobies do"
