What a crazy movie. Every movie that I thought was weird prior to this (Lost Highway, Eraserhead, Videodrome, Tetsuo: The Iron Man, Un Chien Andalou) seems fairly ordinary by comparison.

El Topo is my favorite movie of all time (besides Taxi Driver). I don't really think it's all that bizarre. Holy Mountain, however, IS pretty damn weird... but still mindblowingly awesome.

I think part of how bizarre I found it had to do with the setting.
I guess if it was a martial arts film it wouldn't have appeared nearly as bizarre to me. |

That's funny because in a lot of ways the film Izo reminds me of El Topo, and it's a samurai film...
Both films have a really straightforward and traditional setting but explore themes far beyond most other movies.. very mystical. |
