yellow swans, one of my favorite bands and all around excellent, noise drone duo are breaking up. its true. now two of the best three load bands (swans and coughs) are all done. luckily theyve got one more studio ablum and a shitload of other releases coming out over the next year. its always a bummer when such an excellent band breaks up so quickly though.

I wouldn't call this breaking up so quickly. Their discography is a mile long, and they've been around for the better part of a decade. It was an awesome run. I saw them play almost 20 times live, and I'll never forget some of those nights, especially the time they played a combined set at Liminal in Portland with Smegma.
Both of these guys are pretty compulsive about creating, so I'm sure there will be new projects by both dudes in the future. Gabe was just down my way collaborating with Aja Rose Bond, and a little bit before that with Cexfucz...or however they spell that.

I didn't think they were particularly amazing myself. Just OK; and live even a bit boring. Oh well, different folks etc.

theyve only been around for like 6 years man. and yes theyve been hugely prolific but i guarantee they had at least three excellent full lengths in them. i would have loved to hear them do a full out ambient aphex twin/eno type record.

I saw 'em live. Good. Nice people.
Sucks they're breaking up, especially after achieving quite a bit of notoriety. But they do have about 500 releases, so it's all good. |

yeah, and it says on pitchfork they have one more full length coming in 09, as well as a boatload of lp's, ep's, and possibly some splits.
also both guys will continue to make music, just not with eachother. that sounds iffy to me though because they seem like bff's. and no i havnt heard drowner yellow swans, whats it like?

I missed seeing them about 6 months ago. I've never heard any of their stuff, though.

Ambient yet crushing tracks ranging from 4-9 minutes. It might be the YS album you've been waiting for.

saw them once it was good, what've been better if they had a shorter set, which is what i prefer for noise music of this kind, because after awhile it becomes sorta redundant to watch two dudes facing each other swaying with a tablefull of gadgets in front of them... enough of that good, but the ain't great... btw usa is a monster, lightning bolt, mouthus and vampire can't (definitely!!!) are load bands i appreciate more than yellow swans, sightings might be up there too...

what do you guys consider a load band?
most bands on load release stuff in a variety of labels and i can only think of a few that are either exclusive or that release their major works through them. case in point: i don't consider mouthus a load band as they have only released one album through them compared to three on important. |

It surprises me when people use "Load" like a brand name. I think it even surprises Load's chief cook and bottle-washer Ben when people geek out about "Load bands" suggesting a brand identity. When I hear about a record coming out on Load, I immediately begin to expect a certain level of quality of vinyl or packaging materials or hot mastering job, but as for the music itself, I never know what to expect unless the band and I have become acquainted on previous releases.
Pete Swanson of Yellow Swans has started a new label. His first release is by a band called Bulbs which includes a percussionist who used to collaborate with Axolotl. It's kinda like the more abstract moments of Sightings meets effects wizardry a'la Nice Nice. Pretty impressive... http://freedomtospend.net/fts001.html

bands that have released at least one full length on load. the noise rock and noise scene band dont really hold a torch for any one label, they just release shit on whatever will promote them. so one load full length=one load band.

whats BULLSHIT is that their last show here on the west coast is 21+, such an amazing lineup too... if it was at a better location I would go and watch from a window or something, but the stage is pretty deep in
