I did try one recently when I bought my Poly Chorus and was very impressed with the range of sounds it makes - more than I thought. I actually was pretty sure I was just gonna get a F.A. til I heard everyone talking about the Moogerfooger having more features, and since I had extra money, I went for it. They are one of the most wacked out EH pedals in my opinion. |

I like it a lot. If it broke, I'd probably think about picking up a moogerfooger, but I really love the built in filter the frequency analyzer has. It is a small feature that most people forget about. On certain settings, you can create quirkly little moving little harmonies (I think if you tune it to C and play C major 5ths it works best) You can get DEVO and spacey sounds out of it. You can get creepy "trash compacter" sounds out of it (those are my settings that I use) You can also use it low in the mix and use it just to add a metallic overtone or bassey undertones to your playing. I think the main differences between the frequency analyzer and the moogerfooger: moogerfooger allows you to use expression pedals or other control voltage stuff on it right out of the box the moogerfooger has a square/sine LFO (allowing you to add vibrato to the internal tone generator) The moogerfooger can generate lower internal tones that get your wierd vibratro sounds. Personally, the frequency analyzer goes low enough for me. I rarely use it on the lowest setting. |

I got it! It's pretty awesome - sounds great.
Feels a little cheap though to tell ya the truth (knobs and switches seem to move kind of loose - not sure how to explain it) but the Electro Harmonix stuff feels kind of cheap too. Not 'built like a tank' as they say. It's about the sound anyway, which it surely has. I will post some sounds soon! |

I have a friend who hated his EH frequency analyzer and sold it to me for $45 bucks, so now I have both. The Frequency Analyzer definitely pumps out more low end frequencies, quite a lot more than a Moogerfooger to my ears, which is a bonus in some ways.
I really like them both - you just get more variety of sounds with the Moogerfooger, but the Frequency Analyzer is great too. |
