A Film Worth Remaking?

Given Hollywood's current obsession with remaking films that were perfectly good in their original form, can you think of any films that might be improved by a makeover?

Toxic Avenger and Krull could definately benifit from remakes. Another two I was thinking were the Thing and ESPECIALLY Dune. Dune really should be the next epic trilogy saga. I don't care how many of them they make, they need to make em.

The weirdest theatre experience I probably ever had was Freddy got fingered. The part where Tom Green drives into his driveway and the little kid comes running up to his car to say hi, but trips right before he gets there and gets his tooth stabbed through his bottom lip. And it cuts away to a new scene right as you see he's horribly injured, and right after that moment, after a few seconds like only 3 people in the whole theatre just started laughing at the top of their lungs

I want to see a remake of Platoon with all the original actors, only this time around they have to be at least 80 years old, so clearly this won't happen for quite some time. And if certain actors are dead by then, I don't want their spaces to be filled by anyone else. When we would normally hear their dialogue, I just want to hear silence, and then the rest of the cast can continue on as if nothing is wrong.

Anyway I think they should do this with all Willem Dafoe movies because if I'm imagining this correctly, by the time he's 80 or so he's going to look like walking Death (even moreso than he does now). And I think movies like Off Limits and Streets of Fire would benefit from being remade with an entirely elderly cast.

The only films worth remaking are bad ones. Why remake it if it was good in the first place (aside from lack of originality and a desperate need to turn a profit.) Can anyone think of a good movie with a remake that measures up to it?

There are a few. . . but most of the good ones are 30s and 40s remakes of silent films.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a remake of Bedtime story with Marlon Brando and David Niven.

A Fistful of Dollars is a remake of Yojimbo.

Other good remakes that are not necessarily better but offer something:
Major Payne
Oscar
Throw Momma From the Train (Strangers on a Train)
The Man Who Knew Too Much (which is funny because Hitchcock directed the original as well)
12 Monkeys (La Jetee)
The Magnificent Seven

Ewwwwww. . . apparently there is a new Flash Gordon coming out? How can it possibly be any good without a Queen soundtrack?

And they are remaking revenge of the nerds? Mannnn. LAME.

I don't believe in remaking films that were originally perfect.

The first film that springs to mind which definitely needs to be done again, is American Psycho.
Although the cast is good, the film lacks something. The book is well known for it gory scenes which are absent in the film. The story is about escapism, but the film is just about Christian Bale killing people in very amusing ways. Nothing more. Also, there are no clues throughout the film explaining that the murders were just Bateman's fantasies.

It's just another average film that could have been executed in style, if Harron had taken her time, and thought about it carefully.
