I had heard about these guys (and girl) before, but it wasn't until I read a short article in a magazine I got today that I decided to check them out.
And then I cursed myself for not discovering them until tonight. They sound like Sonic Youth meets Neurosis! An awesome mix of stoner metal and noise rock. Epic riffs alongside cool textures is always a good thing. Plus, the guitarist chick mainly sticks to metal bellowing but sometimes she does ethereal drone-y types of vocals, giving her voice an early Kim Gordon (think Protect Me You) or Belinda Butcher feel. I checked the Metal: Your Favorites thread and found that no one had mentioned them, which I found odd considering much love for metal and noise rock we have amongst us (I added them to my list)...any fans here?

I really liked a couple of Damad records, the first LP, the EP on Bacteria Sour and the EP on Clean Plate but they kind of lost me by the Burning Cold LP, I saw Kylesa on their first tour and they didn't really knock my socks off, I hear the newer stuff is more influenced by classic rock but I've yet to check out anything seriously....... I'm sure at some point the mood will strike..........

I like them a lot whenever I'm in the mood for somewhat more melodic sludge. I probably prefer the earlier stuff but all of it is good metal.
I kinda regret that I didn't discover them before static tensions because in 05 they were doing a club tour here, and had I known them, I would've seen them. Since then they've grown kinda huge I think and have moved to bigger venues. But it's all good for them. |

If you like them you really need to hear Baroness. Check out Blue Album, it's fucking fantastic.

^Oh yeah, Baroness and Mastodon (and now Kylesa) are easily the best metal the last decade had to offer...

Any in the same vein as Baroness? I'd love to hear more bands like them.
