Don't leave the power supply to your drum machine at home when you are going to play a battle of the bands.
Oh well. Instead of not playing, I just stood up there and did Gimme Danger and I got a lot of compliments on my singing. I still pulled last place though. It was at a church and judged by K-ROK and a lame ass christian indie band that sounded just like Coldplay won. I know if I would have done Spectral Presence stuff I was going to get an even lower score. Oh well. From now on I'm bringing a checklist with me to gigs. |

I never understood why no one brings any weapons to a Battle Of The Bands.

Me neither, what's a battle if no weapons are allowed.

Lesson no. 2:
Murphy's law applies to your amp's ability to function properly. |

Anyone ever known a battle of the bands to not be won under dubious circumstances? For instance, it's nearly always a Christian band in amongst metal types, or a relative of the organiser, that kind of thing.

Yeah, that whole show was retarded. Seriously. When I played with Destroyer! I plugged my bass direct in, and the fucking sound guy didn't turn it up until half-way in. We had no way of communicating with the sound people and telling them to do simple stuff like "turn down the mids on my bass because they are making it feedback" or "there is way too much reverb on the vocals, turn that shit down." Plus we had no time to sound check. We plug in, hope we don't have technical difficulties, and play. I can't believe the incredible unprofessionality of the sound people when they had all that fricking gear there. And I can't figure out what is wrong with the Bassman, the volume was cutting in and out and when I got home, it was playing at greatly reduced power. I don't really care that I lost, because I knew I wasn't going to win anyways. I've got another basement show at my house coming up on the 21st in Zelie. You should come to it. Basement shows are great, very little goes wrong No Glice, I've never seen a battle of the bands not dubiously won. At the HS battle of the bands, this hardcore metal band named Purge should have won, but the school gave it to some lame ass SRV wannabes. At this show my friend Ryan's band got 0/10 on vocals because the guy did gutturals. |

Very true.
I found out what is wrong with my bassman, it is one of my preamp tubes. Thank god it is not the power section. Now, if only the guitar store was open today. |

Lesson No 3. When you think you only have a small problem with a tube amp (need to replace a pre-amp tube) you will find that once you fix that problem, there is still another problem you had not discovered.
I'm really hoping to God I don't have to get new tubes and a bias or anything expensive done to my output section. I just had a nice repair done 2 months ago. |
