I put together a CD to try and turn one of my friends who's interested onto sonic youth... I think I'm normally terrible at this type of thing because I usually totally miss the mark. So I don't know, does this work for you? or think it would for someone who hasn't heard them.
1. Becuz 2. Rain on Tin 3. Rain King 4. Sunday 5. 'Cross the Breeze 6. Titanium Expose 7. Skip Tracer 8. Starpower 9. Sugar Kane 10. Pacific Coast Highway 11. Hey Joni 12. Stones 13. Beautiful Plateau 14. Pink Steam 15. White Cross |

I think it's a good list for an introduction.

nice list, all great songs to poke a sonic virgin with. personally i would have added one or two pre shelley tunes in like inhuman and maybe she is not alone or i love her all the time. no diamond sea?????? i certainly would have included that but then again that would take up a lot of time on a cdr, and also.. silver rocket, a must for any sy novice!

Yeah thats really good... What a great mix. Maybe swap Rain King for Saucer-Like and swap Becuz for Teenage Riot. |

Yeah, Silver Rocket was on there at one point and like you said Diamond sea is just way too long - when theres already a few 6-7min+ songs on there too. New Hampshire was on there too at one point.
And I would have loved to have put I Love her All the Time on too or something and was looking at something off confusion is sex but had only two minutes to spare so gave it to white cross. I'll let you know when i get an oppion back if you like - if my friend hates it or loves it :P |

Teenage Riot was my first SY song, and I think that Silver Rocket and maybe Incinerate would be good contributions.

You've got to catch their interest in the first song. Though I love it, Becuz is not a great opener for a newbie. Go with the obvious: Teenage Riot. I also suggest Mote instead of Rain King. Then replace Beautiful Plateau with the radio edit of Diamond Sea (don't kill me...it's for the sake of CD space) and put it at the end.
Just my opinion...you did a pretty damn good job. Not too scary but still revealing.
