The Hawk is Howling
That is not as good as I hoped. I really like this band, they have a very coherent back catalogue, but the low point is that i could actually write better riffs myself. This last LP sounds boring. The usual 4/4 arpeggis and than "distrortion" and then OMG the same thing all over again. Would be just great if the riffs were more inspired. + as inspired by Envy, they thought they needed someone screaming (as in "screamo") over one of their instrumentals and wow this is NOT good at all, it even sounds clumsy. I really thought Mr Beast was a nice LP all round. but this is disappointing, i've listened to this 4/5 times and it doesn't get any better. ooo and by the way also got the the new Don Caballero LP just out. Now this is really bad and totally unfocused, major let down sorry for the rant. |

yeah Mogwai/Explosions in the Sky etc was really cool at first, but its all becoming a little boring and one dimensional now.

I really do like both bands, but it's getting out of hand. That said, I don't really like Mr. Beast. It's about 75% good, but there are a few songs on there (the Mega Snake whatever one in particular) that just ruin the whole thing for me. |

wow, 75% to me is an excellent batting average for an entire record. and GMS = total rock godhead. i really love Mogwai, but am still waiting for them to put out a completely satisfying record from start to end.

Explosions in the Sky were never good. They characterize just about everything I hate about "post-rock."
Mogwai were good at one point, but they should have called it a day years ago. |

I bet that would sell more records. I know I would buy it.
If Coldplay named their next album "Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck We Fucked Up" I would be a fan. |

I heard the song and saw the video of batcat. It's ok, good even. Sounds like... Mogwai. holy shit.
They probably could renew their shtick if they wanted to, but this way they can make the same album over and over again, and people still buy it. |

Isn't that almost every Mogwai (or any other band lumped in with them) song EVER? Quiet riffs that build to big distorted crescendos over and over? |

Because if you play it while you do homework, you never get distracted by it.
