they seriously had a 9 page thread were they all jumped in talking about this new society they were going to make in antarctica. (cos its unpopulated). they were seriously like entertaining this as a life goal and possibility. someone brought up fine points about "the need for our society to be craftsmen aswell cos we need like wood and equipment and stuff". this is how they actually think. you could tell that this is the type of shit they both long to do in the very depths of their souls and cant function without believing is possible. they feel they can self subsist in antartica in their elitist cult that will just magically have food and great palaces created from the force of their neitszchean will that is not corrupted by liberals out in the wild tundras of antarctica.

well when you live in a country that has launched a campaign of racial genocide in iraq and afghanistan

you get a population of people who do not want to face up to this fact
and want at all costs to have a narrative that hides it or justifies it somehow

so you get the neo con fantasies
or the liberal fantasies that try to justify genocide because of muslim extremists that hate gays and women

it functions on some level as a threat "see we tolerate you gays and women and minorities but those bad muslins dont so dont step out of line or they will take over and stone you." noone in america would welcome being bombed invaded and having their national infastructure destroyed and their countries resources plundered cos of say the fact that criminals are executed in their prisons. this would be ridiculous.
very few can accept the reality that the wars were unprovoked amoral actions of genocide that have failed in all their goals and were not only unnecessary but based on fundamentally insane fantasies.

in order to leap over the logical fails that are used to justify the war like:
saddam killed thousands of kurds and tortured his own people
therefore we need to committ more genocide of his people
you get the need to equivocate all muslim extremists with at least the majority of muslims.

in order to excuse genocide you get racial demonisation. which most people find preferable to admitting that about a million innocent people are dead because of the actions of their countries military, media and governments.
the occupations are only creating more extremism. this was never in doubt. that the war would fail was easily discoverable knowledge if you had even a grasp of non right wing think tank funded history. you cannot bring democracy at the point of a gun. you cannot transplant liberal values. thats magical thinking.not only are the wars about as amoral as you can get, they make us all unsafer, they increase terrorism, they fund and empower al qaeda, they set the nations back decades and decades. etc. etc.

you cannot murder extremists out of existence. even if you agreed morally with the wars (cant be done) it is simply factually false that the tactics used to fight them will succeed in any of their goals. al qaeda had bases in 2 countries before the invasion. now they have bases in 9. all the facile arguments used to justify war against these countries are reasons that people KNOW inherently they would all reject if used by other countries as a pretense to do the same to them. so the solution? racial demonisation.

the very logic used to justify the wars could be used to justify bombing the shit out of working class ghettos in washington dc because of bush or obama. noone can accept belonging to a society that is actively bringing about a war with the mid east of its own making and that it will most probably lose in the end when its own infastructure and wealth is depleted trying to continue it.

in vietnam you had some actual journalism that helped change public opinion. but they didnt want to make that mistake again, the solution? embedded reporting - you dont get access unless you report the story the military wants because they hire their own reporters and create their own news on fox. if you say things they dont like you dont get access and get shunned and cant report. also they whip up the morons into a blood orgy and they slander you as liberal. magical thinking - if it werent for people not beleiving and saying bad things all the news stories would be of heroic victory like the hollywood movies we are dumb enough to believe in.

another factor i just thought of is:

think of a right wing fantasy - a muslim preacher with influence money and power who is well respected but harbours secret alliances with al qaeda and extremists.

now think of him coming to britain in 1999
then coming in 2010

after the war on terror he comes to a society that has "sacrificed" so many of its liberties, liberal democratic values and become such a paranoid and illiberal security state that its existing legislative and social structures would EMPOWER him and aid his extreme agenda if he were to magically take over a position of power.

your average racist KNOWS this but cannot see it because he is stupid enough to be terrified of al qaeda. so he has to demonise the muslims more and more to try and build a solidarity and distinction with his "own people" and further denigrate and alienate the muslim from his empathetic powers into a cartoonish monster that can be defeated militarily.

al qaeda have done better out of those wars than anyone else has. the coalition troops brought technology they have now got, they could never have bought this or gotten it any other way. the coalition bribes them and pays them off not to blow up its trucks. its been win win for them.

for nationalism and feel good cultural ideology to work you have to equivocate with something worse. so you have to say: things are better for gays in liberal countries like britain and america compared to iran.

now this is impossible to argue objectively. so in iran occasionally gays get stoned by the state. in britain and the us gays have probably been stoned either never or very rarely. they still get murdered and beaten, but they have greater "visibility" and "human rights". you have to ignore the miserable lives of addiction and suicidal hedonism that comes with liberal gay culture. you have to say that its simply BETTER than in iran were the majority don't publicly recognise the existence of homosexuality as a kind of in built permanent characteristic of people. the iranian way isnt better or worse, it certainly isn't "stuck in the stone age", as if they are destined to eventually progress to our values. it just is what it is. now the idea you can go from the west and bomb and murder these values into people, or at the least go as an ideological emissary of liberalism and convert the masses whilst carrying a machine gun is patently absurd. you cannot convert a race to your values, you simply can't do it. but it has to be the case for our wars to not be based on the bullshit they are based on. the fantasies of christians and morons. to not believe this is to not believe in the notion of progress. that morality and values are mystically advancing with time towards a higher and more universal and just stage. simply not true in any way but its the basic liberal christian/secular religion of the day. the only people in iran who might welcome an invasion would be the rich who can afford to gtfo when the bombs drop and have links to the west already. the types who will benefit financially or politically but dont give a shit about the rest of the country caught in the carnage. there were types like this in iraq. there will be money and status for muslims who are prepared to play the game and denounce extremists all the while not speaking out about the genocide, i mean those of them that live in the us and britain dont really have much of a means to say anything at all without bringing themselves considerable risk and further alienation from the white masses.
