damn son! i'm on probation right now for a non-violent offense (they got me w/ dime of the sweetest cheeba), all i got was one year probation (i had a terrific lawyer). so i was going in the office one day to check in, and was finishing my smoke, and there was this really old black guy w/ one eye sitting there. so we strike up a conversation and i asked him how long his pro was for. he told me 10years! i'm like "jesus, what'd you do fucking kill a family or something?". he laughed, and proceded to tell me he got pulled over for DUI 6 times in 2 months. and he was only on his first year of pro when i saw him. that fucking sucks.
so anyways, what'd yr friend do?

10 years for 6 DUIs in 2 months is a light offense! The guy is going to kill somebody if he doesn't get his shit together.

A year probation for holding a gram on the other hand is pretty over the top where I come from. Your lawyer got paid for getting you more than you should have (but then maybe you live in a red state or something - they call them red for a reason!)

lol, yeah i live in texas. he did get me off light though. the only thing i got was a year probation and had to take some week long drug class. no community service or fine (had to pay court costs though). the reason i know is there were people in that class w/ me that got caught w/ the same or less and they had it alot worse than me. poor bastards.

Yep, Texas would be red and half! Seriously, I got caught with some amazing weed in Seattle once, and the cops were just drooling over the prospects of seizing it. They basically told me they could write a citation if I wanted it to be around to be entered as evidence. Bastards.

An 18 year sentence would usually mean something like manslaughter. Possibly murder, but more than likely not--too light for that, unless there were circumstances.

Other possibility is serious theft or burglary.

Or drug dealing.

I'm guessing it's this last.

he was involved in a bad drug deal.

his friend wanted some lorcets
so he called this guy he knew
they hopped in the car
guy decides to pull a gun on them and jack them
shoots his friend in the head
shoots my friend in the stomach

this parents of the kid who passed away have more money than god and decided they wanted the guy who set it all up in jail too
he was in county for a year until the case closed
got 18 years

the black dude who shot them got life with no parole
