Ever heard of them before?
I never really was a fan.I heard "love will tear us apart" a bunch of times but felt nothing for it. Then sometime over the last month i stumbled upon some live version of "she lost control" and really enjoyed it. I got Unknown Pleasures and thought it was just okay, but I Loved the live disc that came with it. It had way more energy and excitement than the studio album. Anyone else have this strange predicament with the band or any other band for that matter?

God praise Joy Division. The live material does have alot more excitement on it and is way more emotional. Great, great, great album still blows my mind every time I listen to it.

It helps to hear them on vinyl, I've noticed.
I have a 2 LP limited edition set of Martin Hannett's mixes. Good stuff, if not drastically different from the orginals. |

Ever hear the Peel Sessions? Although I'm a fan of the band generally, its like they had some massive energy drain before recording them. Sounds a lot like Cure's PONO to me (which might just be your thing). Then again, because I didn't like them (The P sessions) I haven't listened to them in years and my memory might be fucking with me.

The band hated Hannett's production.

Closer is a record that's way beyond my comprehension. I mean, each time I listen to it, I just keep holding my breath until the last song's over.

they are quite possibly the only bands'artists ever who made two ten star perfect ablums in a row. only other bands that did that were the velvets (white light/whiteheat, vu and nico), arguably the youth (first five full lengths).

Add The Stooges & (arguably) Neil Young [On The Beach / Tonight's The Night], Patti Smith [Horses / Radio Ethiopia] & David Bowie [Hunky Dory / Ziggy] to the list and I might agree. |

i disagree with the stooges, i love all their ablums and theyre my favorite band, but fun house stands far above their other two records. actually i dont agree with any of those. on the beach is far superior to tonights the night, horses is superior to radio ethiopia, and i dont like either of those bowie ablums (if you had said berlin trilogy id give you that)
