So my old MP3 player finally died and I need to get a new one. I'm looking for something no more than $100 and holds at least two GB, not to mention good sound quality. (And doesn't use batteries)
I have my eye on this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+E...ustomerreviews But I heard the bass frequencies aren't too great for that one.... Any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks. ~Jeremy~

uuuuuh, iPod anything. Shuffles starting at $60 or spend $150 for a nano 8GB and prepare to have your mind blown away! (....alright, slight exaggeration, but ya' get the idea).
or..... you can keep buying wanna'be ipods and replace them every year or so..... hmmmmm.

used hi-MD player....maybe?
dunno if they can be catched around 100 bucks, but the sound quality is superior or compressed like fuck, depends on what you do with it. native mp3 playback too. and you can buy as much 1gb MDs you want. it still confuses me in the decision of buying it instead of one of the ipods in the future

iriver or cowon for quality, ipod for that wheel-command I love.
I like itunes too, go figure. I heard bad stories about sony mp3 softwares, but it's been a while, they might have done things better with time.

Resist the cult of Apple. Go for a Creative Zen instead.

I had an old iPod shuffle years and years ago (I think it was the first version actually), and it served me for a long while until it suddenly deleted roughly a fourth of the songs on there and wouldn't register with any computer to upload more. I'd like to get a new one considering I liked how they were done, but the new ones are voice activated (In addition to having odd headphones which apparently are expensive yet defective) and I want nothing to do with that.

voice activated??
they "speak" instead of having a screen with info, but you use the commands on the headphones wire to control it, if I'm not mistaken.. I sure hope some decent company is making compatible headphones by now, but I have no idea.. iriver iriver! cowon cowon!

sansa fuze, without question. they have 4 gig and 8 gig models, as well as an SD card slot for additional storage. i personally find the sound on it (with a good pair of headphones) to be miles better than my ipod classic.

I'm not sure Stu. I loaded my iPod with rockbox, which is an open source alternative to using the built in firmware. I think it plays ogg for instance, so maybe it can play flac?

I concur. I like my two Sansas. If you can wait, watch woot.com. Woot sells a couple Sansas a month. I paid $35 including shipping for a 4gb Fuze and expanded it another 8gb with a microSD card for about $20. It's a refurb, but it came with a 90 day warranty and I've had no problems with it at all. |

just bear in mind that if you get an ipod, you will have to say "Yeah, its on my ipod" to people. Just try and live with that...
I myself have a Creative Zen vision M. the photo/video bit is useless but it holds 30 gig and hasnt packed ever after 2 and a half years. Plus it was only £140 (about $60 or so i think) at the time. Youd probably be able to get one for half that now. Its bulky but its good.
