think of a place and consider this: what style of music do you associate with that place. me and my guard play this and she (yes i have a lady guard now! cfnm abounds!) says that my town reminds her of gunge. i say her home town reminds me of (s)hi(t)p (st)h(u)o(ff)p which is my little joke on her because shes a black lady. big hands she has.

when i think of the pacific northwest, the one band that evokes the greeness and mountains with the modern urban center is Sleater-Kinney, songs like Oxygen and Light Rail Coyote especially

I will never forget how well John Fahey's Red Cross sounded while driving through the emptiness of Utah and Nevada.

Godflesh's "Streetcleaner" + me angry = Croydon (my "home" town, and a total shithole).

These aren't very glamourous places, but I always find myself listening to Roxy Music in Guildford. And my home town is divided into two parts Haslemere town, the posh end, and the shit end Wey Hill where I live. Whenever I have to brave it into Haslemere town I always whack on some abrasive high-voltage Dinosaur Jr. to remind myself I'm better than them.

But if we're talking about places in the less literal sense, and I've just read the thread and we are, I always associate J Dilla's Donuts with outer-space, because its like drifting out into the cosmos picking up fractions of radio broadcasts.

its an obvious progression but mlevins and in fact any of the opposites are always in my mind connected with my first and only ones away. does that make sense?
