What the hell?
(and no, batreleaser's "solo albums by neurosis members" thread doesn't count) One of the best fucking bands, ever! |

Really is/are. The last one is gorgeous but I can only get into it when the mood strikes me 'cuz it's so dense.
(Still have to check out the Neurot stuff as well.) |

Neurosis ... Tribes Of Neurot ... man, I haven't listened to any of that in far too long. Thanks for the reminder. I think I'll throw in the collab with Jarboe now.

one of the few bands who never made a bad record despite changing thier sound up quite a bit over the years. 'given to the rising' will always be my favorite. i went to a show last week; dead times, work/death (who were incredible), sewer goddess, and this one man drone doom band t.o.m.b. while not too original, the guy tomb was really ripping. unlike most drone metal bands who just play earth 2, this guy was playing actual metal riffs just very slow and at full volume with max distortion. i bring this up because it reminded be of a more lo-fi neurosis, with the pounding tribalistic riffs (but no beats unfortunately), pulsating rhythms (courtesy of electronics, like i said, no drums and shit), and real howled anguisehed vocals that he just apparently was screaming into his pick up (no mic), which gave them this total buried feeling, it was really crushing, loud, and even a breath of fresh air. which goes to show, more drone and experimental bands should be influenced by neurosis, eyehategod, etc..

I've seen this lot about 4 times now, and every time they kill bigtime. One of my fave all-time live acts.

Pauly, why do you reply on every Neurosis, Isis, Godflesh, Melvins, etc. thread with negativity? Hahaha. I think I said this to you before. You just hate the slow, crushing style of music!

isis is lame now, real lame. the old man gloom album and "celestial" are the two only classic things to come out of that whole camp, and "oceanic" is ok. godflesh still rules tho.
actually, "trough silver in blood" is stil the best neurosis record. top 10 slow and crushing doom/sludge/stoner/drone metal bands. 1. Sleep 2. Earth 3. Black Sabbath 4. Eyehategod 5. Neurosis 6. Corrupted 7. Pentagram 8. Burning Witch 9. Melvins 10. Moss

I'd have to agree that Isis got real shitty, especially "Absence of Truth" or whatever that forgettable album is called with the 500 shitty effects pedals.
