I have to go on a long car ride with my friend and I want to make a mixtape or 2 that I take along the journey so I don't have to listen to her cd's. She listens to crappy mainstream indie, some rnb, pop and some pop punk. What music would you reconmend that I could put on some mixtapes that we would both like and that someone who likes pop would not be offended by because it's to weird or something. I still want to listen to music that I enjoy, but perhaps the swans may not be appropiate. Any sonic youth songs that would be good? Bands?
Any answers welcome. Unless they're stupid. |

Well, sounds like your friend likes Hi-fi, pop sensible music, with pop-sensible lyrics and vocal tones.

merzbow, masonna, gerogerigegege, smegma, hijokaiden. I think your friend would like a mix tape of this stuff.

you could always pretend to be tired, slip on some headphones and listen to your own music in the back on a walkman.

seems to me if youre making this tape to avoid hearing music she doesnt like, maybe you could ask your friend to show the same consideration and sensitivity towards the music she brings on the tirp too, i mean instead of just playing the music she would like make an effort to go half like you are doing,
other than that nirvana? rem? white stripes? weezer? general mainstream rock stuff i guess |

Listen to Xiu Xiu, Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, and the Postal Service. Not terribly noisey or hard to get into.

I can't believe I forgot the NMH. Also, Sufjan Stevens, Cat Power, and Weezer's Pinkerton.

Weezer is standable and extremely pop. Jimmy Eat World, but I like them so that might be biased. Postal Service, White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys.

I'd say Breeders are more easy on mainstream ears.

Defintely R.E.M, Nirvana, White Stripes, Flaming Lips, Interpol, maybe even The Clash?.
You should just share the radio. She puts in a CD, you put in a CD. It's only fair. |

i'd go with Arcade Fire, easy listening, you dont wanna get her all tense cuz when ye take a wrong turn and NIN hits the stereo god knows what sort of shit could go down then.
PS i loved the way you called this thread "good mixtapes 4 people with no taste " funny

I'm with HaydenAsche and The Dom. They're not too difficult, and plus if she really likes the Postal service, she can get into Jimmy Tamballero's solo project, Dntel, which I find is amazing.
If she likes the Rnb / Dance type stuff, I guess going with some Debbie Deb or Madonna might be good as well, but then you might not like it. You can also blow her away with some Gang Gang Dance but it really depends if it's going to cost you the CD player or not, although I'd say it's worth it
