I've read lots about him in various books about the Velvets, Warhol, etc but never read a biography dedicated to him. I know Victor Bockris has written one and have liked his other ones but anyway, any you can recommend?

I can vaguely remember reading the Victor Bockris one, but I can't remember anything about it.

The Victor Bockris one is pretty much the best around, whatever Lulu says about it.
Not related: did you get the New York Art book? Amazing. |

Thanks. I assumed the Victor Bockris one was the best. I've not got the New York Art book but it is in my Amazon basket. There seems to be a lot of new Warhol-related books recently. That whole scene seems to be getting a bit of coverage. I just got this which as far as I know is the first full book-length study of Jack Smith and I've heard someone's writing a new biography of Ondine, which is almost unbearably exciting.

New York Art is very much the best Velvet Underground book together with Uptight so far. No contest, there are some fantastic pictures I hadn't seen anywhere else and come in top quality. This band really deserves a better biography than what's been on the market since forever though.

Also, have you read John Cale's ''What's Welsh for Zen''? If you haven't, that will give you a good insight into the mind of a young Lou Reed.

Thanks for the nod to 'What's Welsh for Zen?'. I haven't read it but will definitely see if I can find a copy. Thanks again
