Several months back I bought a soul-jazz Tropicalia compilation. Really awesome stuff, and I have been meaning to search deeper into some of the artists but I dont really know where to start. Any suggestions?

yeah, the sould jazz compilations was hottt shit! I haven't really heard much other stuff from them other than the compilation except Caetano Veloso's 1969 album and the first Os Mutantes album which are both great.
A friend played in a band that wasn't on the comp called Os Braveos or something like that. From that one time I heard them I was pretty impressed.

Gal Costas first 2 albums are fantastic. Those are the only ones of hers I have heard though.
I can vouch for the first 3 (I think) os mutantes albums as well...they are fabulous. |

there was a big exhibition in london (in fact i think it is going round the world too) which had an album released to accompany it which is beUTIFUL/AMAZING. saddly right now i am too broke to buy it so have to content myself with fondling it in record stores.I couldn't go to the exhibition but i heard that it to was ace/fun/bonkers too.

We have a ton of these threads, and for more Brazilian music check out the World Music thread.
But yes. Gal Costa is my wife. |

I only know Os Mutantes, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil (and a bit of Gal Costa), but I really loved what I heard from them, and now want to listen the other big names of the genre (and listen to more stuff by Gal Costa). Yes, that Soul Jazz compilation was really lovely.
That blog seems promising... |
