Has anyone seen them live recently. I know all their material is very diverse and I may see them in Asheville next weekend. Just wondering what to expect.

So I ended up seeing Boris live, but not before I found a torrent with their entire back catalog. Needless to say, I had very high expectations. Also worthy of mention is that every Japanese band I've seen in the last couple years have blown me away(Acid Mother's Temple, Green Milk on Planet Orange, Melt-Banana, dj Krush). Well, the show was just ok. They played Pink almost straight through and may have even played one song twice. I'd have to give the girl props for shredding the guitar(I'm not use to girl's playing the guitar), but she looked like a zombie on stage and didn't even have her eyes open half the time. They sounded pretty good although you couldn't here the vocals very well. I guess I just expected more.

Boris were very good when I saw them. Very good indeed. They were certainly improved by a grinning loon of a drummer, and also a gong. All bands would have gongs in a just world.

i saw them three times now and the last two times were very good indeed. the first time was good too, but at the same time slightly disappointing because they just played 3-4 minute rock songs.
i'm listening for the first time to altar now (i know it's wrong to listen to leaked albums but i'm weak and couldn't resist); can't wait to get my hands on the real thing. |

The gig I saw at Amoeba was mystical and intense.

are they one of those bands that seeing them live before hearing any of their releases or songs would give you a better idea of what they were about?

They were one of the few bands I've ever seen that I wish played for twice as long!
When I saw them the drummer had a one of those little bud microphone attached to his ear so he could add "yeeeeeaaaaaah", "whoooooooo" and "roooccccckkkkk" to all the fast songs. He became my new hero. Somehow they cover most of their sounds from blissed out drone, to evil drone, stoner metal, straight up rockin tunes in what seemed like 45 minutes.

Saw them in MPLS last month and was pleased.
Lots of the rockin' material... mostly Pink stuff. Good shit. Kurihara and Wata's lead styles are so different, yet sound so good together. |
