Art Break: Scenic Youth

Get your spooky art cape on! Tomorrow, Friday the 13th, sees the second installment at Reena Spaulings Fine Art for the show Dead Already: a multimedia exploration into the concept of the gallery as "fragmented body marked by past and present struggles." Helmed by Sonic Youthian Kim Gordon and artist Jutta Koether, there are actual factual pieces of art on display as well as an area for live performances entitled Two Grahams—wherein dancers Ei Arakawa and Eleanor Erdman reinterpret the choreography of dance legend Martha Graham alongside the bootleg ’70s punk recordings of artist Dan Graham. The previous happening—Dead Already, part 1—saw Gordo et all dancing in Grecian garb plus a performance from Sonic Youth class pets the Magik Markers. If you're lucky, Dinosaur Jr senior J Mascis and Alan Licht will be in the audience for this one too—presumably reverently sipping beer with Lee Ranaldo.

exactly, that consistency of image is what makes it so interesting - at first glance it all looks the same and simple but closer examination shows a variety of textual depth and a complicated interaction of colour and sympathetic process.

I gotta try and stop by her and Thurston's shows this weekend...
