I was just thinking about this this week actually. Still bums me out. I like that he hints that more live albums will be on the way...

SYR9 has a fair amount of piano, in a good balance with the guitars. I thought that was the realization of the piano idea when I heard it. Hope there are more SYRs to come from the sonic vaults.

To me it sounds Thurston is now also thinking SY will not continue ever (before only Kim has said it).

Even if Sonic Youth got back together, it would never be the thing it once was. But then again, that was always the nature of the band anyway. Reinventing what they do(did...), building on old ideas as a means of creating new ones. I just couldn't see a reunited Sonic Youth being an interesting Sonic Youth. Lee's lyrics have gotten extremely boring even if his actual "music" is still decent. Kim's being superficial-as-fuck has become far too obvious even though the Body/Head stuff is the best (musical...) thing any member of SY has put out since SY. Thurston is still cool as shit, even if musically "formulaic" (least the guy seems genuinely happy), and hasn't Steve been having health problems last I heard? Sonic Youth as a band is alive in the same way and worthwhile dead artists art is alive. Lots of recorded material there for the grabs of anyone looking to have a listen. Or countless listens. There's is so much of it I even occasionally find something new.
The Eternal is a good last statement. Best SY album? Not by a long shot, but it was very versatile and included so many Sonic elements past and (at the time...) present. There's my Sonic Rant for the month/week/or possibly even year. Hope everyone is well.

Well, I think SYR9 is also really great requiem, if SY will not be ever together. I will be glad if they will come together whatever they will made. Of course it always could be disappointment, but anyway if I will have possibility to be in their gig, I will be there!
