I'd say I like about 90% of his songs. Usually there are one or two tracks that I can't stand. Like on Mellow Gold, there's Truckdrivin Neighbors; on Odelay, there's Readymade and Jack-Ass; etc. But overall, most of his songs kick ass.

Readymade rulez, it's one of my favorites ! Jack-ass sucks a bit.
For me his best album is Mutations there are no bad songs on it. I think I'd rate it in the top 10 albums of the nineties, easily. It's even better than Odelay. Sea Change is uneven (pro'bly because it's just love songs basically) but has it's greats moments : Paper Tiger, Round the Bend, Little one, Side of the road make it worthwhile, I even find him more sincere than, say J. Buckley in Grace, who's is good too but is a little sugary and camp at times. That said recent albums have been a bit of a disappointment for me (save Sea Change), Midnite Vulture is just ok (one great song though Beautiful ways), Guero is nearly a failure. |

J. Buckley is camp by choice, probably.

Seachange is a beautiful album. This is the reason I think Beck is great: His albums have great diversity.

Beck should stick to rock instead of electronica and world music.

making my monthly beck post:::
Ok, I'm listening to cell phone right now. And about half way in I think it's alright. I think he needs to take some time off. He made everyone sad with sea changes and then realized he needed to cheer everyone up with a wacky beckapalooza party, and that was guero. So why do we need this seemingly after party track? Guero was a good cd, if displaying a few bunk numbers and lack of conviction, but it was plagued by a 'beck-by-numbers' sound, and cell phone is no different. HE hasn't left guero's vein yet, he just filtered it thru nigel goodrich. If anything cell phone's dead is sending everyone who like a guero a text that says "hot new beckness this fall!"
