Was the British government right to prohibit the Dutch MP Geert Wilders from entering the UK to show his documentary film Fitna, to the houses of parliament? The reason given by parliament was that his film's anti-Islamic message would 'threaten community harmony and therefore public security in the UK.'
Although Wilders was refused entry, his film was shown within parliament without protest.

Here's a link to the film: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...02968312745410

(Warning, some extreme images)

Thoughts?

that man has the worst hair i've seen in a while.

anyway, his movie wasn't as extreme as everyone thought it would be. plus, he made a complete fool of himself by saying all over the media that 'they can't stop me, i'm going to london anyway'.

An extremly embarrassing character, who will never
be taken serious in Holland or elsewhere.
Fitna reminds me of other sloppy internet blockbusters.

Given that, don't you think the British government were a bit counter-productive in stopping him from entering the UK? Wouldn't it have been better to allow him in to show his film and speak and then let people make their own minds up, rather than effectively turning the guy into one of those annoying martyr's for free speech that regularly clog up the newspapers?

Sure it would've been better to just let him in. Then again, there are morons out there
who would agree with his point of view and unnecessarily cause a stir.

Yes, of course the UK should have let him in. Wilders, apart from being a national embarassment for Holland, is an elected MP of a fellow EU-country. Granted, he's facing charges in The Netherlands, but nobody is guilty until etc..

Refusing him entrance was a stupid decision, that indeed only turned him into one of those annoying martyrs for free speech. It got him tons of free publicity and gave him another opportunity to call other politicians cowards, in this case Gordon Brown and Maxime Verhagen. One for refusing him entry, the other for not protesting that strongly enough.

But the real question should be: Why would the British parliament show that "film" of his?
"Film", because calling it that is an insult to film makers. His "film" is like some youtube footage thrown together with Windows Movie Maker.
