LUMB004 MICHAEL GIRA 'Songs for a Dog' LP
A special limited edition collection of songs mostly culled from and only otherwise available via Michael Gira's website-only CD releases, 'Solo Recordings at Home' and 'I Am Singing to You from My Room'. Also includes three recordings only, so far, available on this release. Raw, naked and highly emotive outpourings of transcendental bliss from one of the most gifted songwriters of the past couple of decades or more. As described by the man himself, "I recorded these songs alone, at my desk, in most cases just as I was writing them - me and an acoustic guitar and one stereo microphone. I've often found that the true 'feel' of a song exists then, right at the point it's first pulled together, stronger than at any later point." Only 2000 will be made available, in high-quality packaging, complete with insert, and pressed on heavier-than-standard vinyl. Out late November 2006. LP - £14.50. Price includes postage in the UK, but please add an extra £1.00 (Europe) or £2.50 (USA + elsewhere). Note: Advance orders accepted now. www.lumbertontrading.com A bit expensive, I know, but the excellent 'Solo Recordings at Home' and 'I Am Singing to You from My Room' CDs are out of print, so this is the only way that you're going to be able to get hold of what I promise you is some brilliant material from Mr Gira. |

A collection of solo songs by New York City's Michael Gira. Having initially cut his teeth on the outer reaches of the post-No Wave scene of the early 1980s, Gira has over the years honed his craft into something more sophisticated without actually having lost sight of the power, emotional tugs or even, on occasion, the simplicity of his earlier works. On 'Songs for a Dog', he has collected ten tracks that catch him in his purest form. Mostly built around his guitar and voice in a home studio environment, the songs here both expose the very kernels from which he usually works from and illustrate only too perfectly how they can function without the layers of sound he's also often fond of exploring. More importantly, these songs capture an artist who seems forever capable of pushing himself into new avenues and whose laurels consistently get cast aside in the process.
TRACK LIST 1.'Promise of Water' - Recorded for this LP, first appearance 2. 'Lena's Song' - from "I am singing to your from my room" web-only CD 3. 'Destroyer' - same as above 4. 'Rose of Los Angeles' - same 5. 'God Damn the Sun' - originally appeared on Swans' "Burning World" album. This versionrecorded specifically for this lp. 6. 'God's Servant' - outtake from The Angels of Light's "New Mother" CD 7. 'Purple Creek' - from "I am singing to you from my room" 8. 'Lines' - from Gira/Matz collaborative CD "what We Did" 9. 'Waiting Beside Viragio' - same as above 10. 'Mean Monster Mike' - from "I am singing to you from my room" |

I'm not sure that I'll buy it, as there's so little on it that I don't already have.
And yes we did lose to Bremen. Your name has mysteriously just disappeared from my Christmas card list following that cruel jibe. |

NO NO! It was not a dig, really! It was honestly amazed to see that. I didn't watch the game, nor did I see highlights.
Let us both be happy with Man U's defeat in Scotland. |

I've promised Fishmonkey I wouldn't mention that. I won't be so polite if we beat Man U at the weekend though.
