who cares about cliches. It's probably a cliche that I'm saying it's the best jazz track recorded. But it fucking is.

coltrane has like 10 AMAZING albums and I can imagine his others are high quality too. him and davis probably had the most consistant output in jazz music up to the 70's

It was his signature piece. In his "difficult years", this thing stretched to about 60mins. 4cd Live In Japan.....get that muthafucka, Coltrane fans. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I love the late shit, like Om and Ascension. True story: I had Om on in my car, really loud. Parked car. My Dad visited, needed car. Turned ignition on....."AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH WTF".........took him a while to find the volume knob......never ever forgot this........"it was as if someone was strangling pigs"...... He's right, hahaha. Om is fucking intense.

Well, Trane died in 67, and imho, Davis's early 70s stuff was fucking Ace! I love that Trane and Davis got fucken WEIRD late in their careers. (Well, Davis sold out during the last few years, but....)

Basically, from the point when the "classic" Davis Quintet with Davis, Coltrane, Red Garland, Jimmy Cobb and Philly Joe Jones hits the scene in the mid 50s, right up until Trane dies in 67 and Davis initially retires in 1975, the vast majority of everything those guys produced (which comes to what, like 120 albums or something if you count in the live releases), or at least what I've heard, is fucking gold. It's just unbelievable. There are other jazz band leaders from that period that I still love, like, say, Coleman, but no one can touch those two for consistently making some of the best music ever across such a shocking range of styles. It makes my head spin.

Dam you folks got me all jealous with envy as I sold all of my jazz collection supporting a bad habit in the early nineties. Everyone mention here is fantastic to throw in a few more names that did some brilliant stuff. Charlie Parker King Curtis, Rashann Roland Kirk. As you can see I really went in for the Sax. Bitches Brew DAM?
Any pointers to downloads of anything mentioned greatly appreciated.
