Great interview! Thanks so much for this; I shared it with another board and got a good bit of appreciation. Gotta see that movie.

i read this. (nice! thanks!) and found it a fun read for many reasons - shows you that getting old doesn't necessarily mean growing soft or stupid or stale - it's okay to be weird (we know this, but some kids are still trying to be normal) - the japanese are taller because they now eat meat! (yay meat! ha!) anyway, i disagree with his take on electricity rates. utilities are strained by high demand. he doesn't want nuclear power plants but at the same time he wants to consume all the electricity he wants for the same low price. sorry, no. you provide a basic service at a basic rate, so that nobody goes without, and the customer who wants more and makes you build more nuclear power plants pays a premium. makes sense to me (sorry keiji, but you'll realize i'm right and so is tepco). |

- and there was me thinking that stupidity - like other things I am not going to bother listing because we know you are an intelligent human being - was one of the things we'd love to be ageist about but unfortunately can't. - I don't understand this comment. It seems to contradict your first one. - Most Japanese people I have met are short. Some are tall. I have asked a Japanese friend recently if it's true that Japanese men and women dye their hair black because having gray hair is taboo in Japan. He seemed, rightly, offended by this and asked me where I've heard about it. I said to him it was the internet and he smiled. |

but you could argue having grey hair is taboo in the west
for women anyway. men can get away with it if they're dishy like Phillip Shofield |

My temples are slowly going grey, I want them to go grey quicker though so I can look distinguished.

My hair has been going gray through a mixture of anxiety and depression that I was put under medication for in my teens. Anyway, I was thinking about Keiji Haino's hair when I mentioned that to my Japanese friend.

I want white hair like my dad. Most of it gathers in the front. Looks pretty fucking cool if you ask me.

i don't think you're ageist but, you know, i live in 'merica, and culturally kinda so do you (same shit different accent), and just the other day i was making fun of an old man strangling his hot younger wife not just for being an abusive nastard but for being old. some somali woman told me once it's okay to make fun of old people because we're all getting old-- whereas it's unfair to make fun of peole with genetic defects, etc. now the point i was trying to make (i suppose there was a point) is that time goes by for everyone but you have a choice to make it your enemy or your ally-- those who want to be perpetual adolescents are in a losing war. no, it's actually more of the same. "weird" = good. Quote:
